pull out all the carpets and hunt for rust

The vit made lots of dead clutchy type sounds.
Cures the odd metallic scraping noise by ripping the loose metal sheild off one of the engine mounts. Then the horrible whiney noise went away ...
And the alternator fell apart the next day :) Bearings had collapsed.

I,m on my 2nd one now, there're great fun on and off road

Check for rust in the body:
around/under headlights
wheelarches
rear boot lip
boot floor stifeners
windscreen surround.
check its got oil(they can burn a bit!)
other than that, pretty tough little truck.
As for clutch noise, could be release brg.. either pull the box, or just ignore the noise if it drives ok.....

I don't think hunting is the right word!!! I reckon pull out the carpet and look at the rust would do! :D
They are amazing. I'm on my 3rd now. Really cheap to run and repair but amazing fun. I managed to follow my friends pinzgauer almost everywhere on a play day. :D
You'll get used to the rattles and strange noises pretty quick and learn which ones are ok to ignore!
They lack grunt though :(

Change the oil in the diffs and boxes as this gets overlooked by a lot of people.
