Well, I've decided I'm going to weld up my panhard bracket, it'll be good practice for all the other repairs I'll probably end up doing too, question is what welder do I go for , I have a Tig inverter that also does MMA but I'm guessing a Mig would be more approriate?
If so, what sort of amperage would I need?

Without sounding like some village busy body.....
If you're not that good at welding, is the panhard rod really the best thing to learn on?? ....as it is fairly critical to axle location... and if the mounting snaps you will loose control of the Land Rover :shock:

The man has a point.
If the axle is on the truck its even harder, cos the welds are all upside down and in nooks and crannies.
Best bet is fabricate a complete new bracket in the workshop, then cut the one off the axle and weld the new one into place.
Better done with the axle out of the car so you can tilt/rotate it to get the best angle for welding etc.
If you are new to Mig, Id get someone with experience to do it, It is a very important item, and a botched repair could lead to injury/death (maybe someone elses)
If you can weld, then go for it, but Id still pull the axle, Itll be a neater job.

Don't worry the plan was to fabricate a bracket and then weld that on, I'm not a total novice at welding I used to work for an engineering company, that was about 18 years ago though and stick or tig were the only options then!
If I wasn't confident in my skills I wouldn't be attempting it

TIG is generally the best, but MIG is the easiest.
If you have a TIG welder and can use it then there is not a lot of point in getting a MIG
Do plenty of practice first, or better still if its been that long since you last welded then a welding refresher course at an engineering college would probably help
