I can get an F plate Ra Ro with 2.5 VM diesel for £750, or a J plate Disco tdi for £1000
I know naff-all about the VM engine
The Disco is one-owner, 125000 miles, recon 5-speed manual box last November, MOT to Feb 2007, dirty but straight apart from a crease down the drivers door, rusty bumpers, rusty screen pillars. (Nothing a can of matt black wouldn't sort out.
I'm leaning towards the Disco, largely because I know more about it, and I lack knowledge of the VM
Thoughts?

Generally the TDI is considered a better engine than the VM, however the turbo VM is far from a bad engine, its only problem i've come across is that over heating can do a lot ££££ of damage. It did take a blocked radiator and a hard days towing to over heat though.

When it's working the VM is good, people give it a bad rep. That said the TDi was meant to be better and given the back up it now has......

I'd say the Ra Ro, purley because it's £250 cheaper (can go on mods) and it's a Rangie.

i had a VM engine in my frontera, had a few problems with it, wouldnt recomend them to anyone.

Hmmm...
But are they worth the money?

I had a RR with one in and it was a lot better engine power wise
than my 300tdi but....................
blew a head gasket (it has four)
and your looking at a£400-£500 quid bill
so imoa go for the disco
