Hi
The 4x4 Emergency Support Network (North West region) is now part of a national network.
For those who don’t know about us, we are a newly formed group based in the North West. Our aim is to cover the Lancashire/ Manchester area, so not to infringe on other area groups.
Our aim is to support the police and ambulance services, via co ordination from the Emergency Planning Council. There has been a fair amount of groundwork done, but to get the organisation up and running we need members.
In the next few weeks we will be organising meetings, creating a committee and raising funds, then we can look into training and the support network.
To do this we need members so we are having a recruitment drive.
Anybody who lives in the North West and owns a 4x4 and would like to get involved, please could you register your interest at http://s14.invisionfree.com/4x4emergencysupport/index.php?act=idx
I will try and answer any questions posted

Spoken to St Johns/St Andrews ?
i would have to ask on that
but the organisation is not a replacement or an alternative
other groups have assisted ambulances in bad weather
evacuation in flooding
even delivering meals on wheels when access is restricted due to snow
if we can assist st johns then thats great

A lot of Divisions arent active. There are a lot of 4x4 Ambulances in St Johns that just dont get used, sure they would love to pitch in and help you guys and get involved.
Might even be able to get yourselves some free first aid training.

kevinf go to the proper 4x4 response network website at http://www.4x4response.net and there is a forum for each area of the country so you can register your interest.
Same goes for anyone who lives in any other area, you can go there, find a group in your area, or if there isnt one, you could consider starting one!

I'll have to have a look on their website as it seems like a great idea - not sure i can help the NW group tho as i'm a bit out of their location, but ya never know!!

Having looked at the web site and the aims of it, it all looks very complicated and possibly expensive? Could you tell us a little more about it in laymens terms so that we know what would be involved and what equipment etc. we would need own or purchase to be a part of it?
I dont want to put a downer on it cos it does sound like a really good idea although as Drum pointed out most of us on here are more north east than north west.
Thanks :D
sorry if the answer is a bit vague but
i assume that there will be a cost to members as most groups, clubs, organisations need funding. though funding can be from other sources including grants and fund raising by members and donations from industry.
as for training as an organisation and part of a national group i would hope to gain sizeable discounts in any training that takes place
as for equipment i dont even own a tow rope, but i know most land rover owners are well equipped for off roading and its not possible to prepare for every situation
the first concern is to become active to do this we need members then we can organise funraising, training and securing links with emergency services organisations and councills in the area
Hopefully all questions will hopefully be answered atour first meeting
the web site for the national organisation is http://www.4x4response.net/
i believe one area group is in the process of recieving charitable status
