Hi,
Went to look at a V Reg TD5 earlier, really like it, got a test drive for Sat (damned 10 hour shifts!!) The only real problem I could find is the rear door handle is mullered!!
Even when I managed to reach through to the boot area, I couldn't open it from the inside. Think the mechanism is shot.
Does anyone know where to get a replacement mechanism at a "good" price, or if there is a "quick" fix for this?
Cheers

take the oval landrover badge off the handle housing and soak the inside in wd40, that works on my 300tdi don't know if its the same td5.
thats the quick fix i know  - hope it works and not something more sinister
-
Had a quick look at it whilst at the dealers, think it's gonna be a bit more sinister :( The handle seemed to be stuck in the "open" position (when you pull the handle back towards yourself in order to pull the door open!!

My td5 (51 plate) had the same problem and when i took it back to the stealers they said "they all do it sir"
They showed me what to do so i am only going to tell you once...
Pop off the the landrover badge (small screwdriver)and spray with WD40.
My rear door would not open from the inside or out. But it does now :D

Oops my bad 8)

My '97 300Tdi also had a rear door that wouldn't open, intermittently. It turned out to be a broken spring in the rear door lock. Bought one off e-Bay for about a fiver and fitted it, hey presto ! working door lock.
Apparently it's all to do with the spring returning the door lock to the unlocked position, biggest headache is getting the door open in the first place.
Good luck :)

Same thing happened to the father-in-law's TD5. Simple fix, same as has been said 8)

Back door, yep soak it with WD

He He !!!
Been there and got the T-shirt.
Off with the badge, good old squirt with WD40, even took the rear door trim off and put the oil can to the internals. Giving it all a good tug and getting it all moving again.
Reckon it's probably the spring guys talk about but mine's been working fine since I lubed it. Still wont open without putting the key in the lock and turning it to the left as if unlocking it and I always wonder if it I will be able to open it again. I use my rear door a hell of a lot getting tools and tackle out of the back and also the dog virtually lives in there as well. One hell of usefull load space with seats folded up, dodgy door locks don't help.
Seems to be par for the course however. I've since seen loads with the same problem.

Lock?? Key?? I did look but didn't see it. Where's that then

There's no keyhole on the tail door of a Disco 2 ...

That's what I thought.

Sulley,
If you're buying it from a dealer then wouldn't it be an idea for them to fix it first?
Is it a seven seater, if so then the boot door is also classed as a passenger door and should therefore opperate properly. As far as I'm aware, this would be an MOT fail on a seven seater as if you had passengers in the back they would have difficulty getting out in an emergency.
-
3/4's of a can of WD40 later, door lock is sorted!!!!!!
It's a five seater, big storage box things in the back.
-
you can lever the handle back into position with a screwdriver as well - only trouble is that when it gets stuck with the door open - the door then won't lock itself... - so need to pop handle back in position before closing door also...
