It is quite scary the water table must be very low.  We have had a week of sun in Yorkshire, went and did some lanes in the Dales and THERE ARE SOME EMPTY RIVERS ALREADY....

Oddly enough, good few sunny days here. Went through Brokenhurst on the New forest on the way home and for the first time in 10 months, there was water in the ford!

It's been raining here a lot lately too.  Must be the water evaporating from down south and dropping it all off over the Pennines.

What gets me is that we're a country surrounded by water, yet we are unable to harness the sea water as drinking water?

it tipped it down here on saturday night but apart from that we haven't had much rain in the last week or so.

We forded the river Alwen by Corwen at Easter and it was up to the bumper/headlights - did it again last Sunday and it was only halfway up the wheels.

We haven't had much rain down here, but when it does rain it pours, then the water just flows off the hardened surface.

I think they can use sea water, it's just a long, expensive process.

I think people need to take this ban seriously, if they use the water to keep their business open, they may not have enough water to live (nor may the rest of us for that matter).

I'll want to wash my Landy when it's muddy the same as the next person, but I would rather have water to drink and wash myself in.

All the reservoirs are full to the brim here.

Valleys full of water. Millions and millions of gallons.

Shame it's all for the benefit of Liverpool

You'll still be able to wash your Landies, just have to take them to the jet wash instead of doing them at home. Jet washes are classed as commercial use. Also they drain the water back into the system whereas when you wash your car at home most of the time the water will just soak away into your garden.

Personally I think it's about time the government stepped in and told the water companies to get their act together and mend some of their leaking water mains. They seem to be making enough profit, so why aren't they doing the job that we pay our water rates for?

Reading that has changed my view a bit, I forgot about all their leaking pipes.  If they can allow millions of gallons to be lost then why should we look after the litres?  Maybe some sort of protest/boycott, hmmm...

Also add in that West End, Bitterne and Hedge End reservoirs were sold off to developers for housing, so thats three reservoirs that have been lost in the space of 5 miles.

They should put more effort into promoting water recycling - It wouldnt have been hard to just build houses with water butts to save rain water, or even to have used one single gutter for the whole house so that a butt can be easily added (just bitter as its going to be hard work to combine my 3 gutters )

I've been trying to work out how to rig up a system to use my waste water to flush the bog (as it uses 7.5litres each flush) but i cant find a big container cheap enough :(

I also need to sort out some way of catching all the water that drains down my garden from all the houses and garages furter up the hill. I keep having to shovel my drive back up the slope when it rains!

Have thought about this, live in a communal block of flats so volume of water isnt a problem. What I would like to do it pipe it to a tank abouve the garage, through a simple mesh filter to get the crap out then use that to jetwash the car.

Need to get an idea of how much I use each time :)

With the majority of hosepipe bans you are allowed to fill up your swimming pool or pond

Fill that up then put the pipe for the powerwasher in it...

Just a thought here chaps....

Why do we put up with the water companies telling us when and how to use water.
Can you imagine if the electricity people said, " erm...sorry but we are P*ss*ng away power due to the fact that we havent spent any real money on maintenence in the last 50 years, so you can only use your cookers twice a day and your tv for an hour a day, by the way we are putting up your prices even though we still made a 20 million pound profit last year"

There would a riot....but we accept it from the water companies....WHY?
