Hmm, anyone looking for a good compact digicam with good quality, and good features should consider the Canon A95 - its last years model and is excellent.

Going cheap @ the digital camera company - http://www.digital-cameras.com/clearance-corner/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-a95.html

I have its baby sibling the A85 to go along with my Professional Nikon DSLR kit :)

just looked back at the pix - and you really lose quality posting on the boards.. the one of the bike if i have if 'full size' ie 100% its 2 screens high by 3 screens wide (and thats on a 17" monitor running max scren size)....you can even make out the dead flys on the front of the screen...
Kodak Z740 camera.. really impressed with it.

Mine will take add on lenses as well but they cost an arm and a leg, when i bought my camera new (2 years ago now) it cost £250 and the lenses are £150 extra

Which is why i havent bought them.

I have a Canon EOS 300D. Well Digi Rebel as I got it in the States.

mine is 6 anda  bit teh newer version is 8, I can't tell the difference.

I do like the SLR though, with the 300mm stabilized zoom you could get a picture of the running engine from the next field.

A digital SLR is definately the way forward if want top quality pictures. It's not entirely about about the number of Megapixels but the quality of the lenses you get. I have 6M pixel compact Pentax camera and also a 12M pixel Fuji S2 Pro digital SLR (+ some pro Nikon lenses). Quite frankly the Pentax 6M pixel pictures are poor due mainly to the bad lenses you get with compacts and the poor embedded compression software. On the other hand the SLR pics are quite stunning.

I bought mine two years ago- but DSLR's are nearly affordable nowadays!

ive got a Nikon D50 DSLR... 6.2 megapixels, but as he said, its not about the size or resolution of the sensor, its about the quality, and size of the lenses.
a big lens (like on a digi SLR) will project a much sharper image, from a greater distance onto the sensor, than a tiny lens, positioned a few mm from the sensor, as in some tiny compacts..

the D50 is a fantastic camera, but it was way over £650 when it first hit the high street... can be found for about £400 now though....

i've got a Nikon F55 35mm film camera that i love aswell... i think theres a bit of life left in film photography yet........

m@tt.

depends what you want.. most 3.2 mega pixel cameras are great for point and shoots tyle piccies, and can be had for £50 ish new, I paid £150 for this one 5.9 mega pixels 4x optical and 10 x digital zoom... really impressed..point on zoom.. we stayed about 10 miles from goonhilly (?) radar station.. normal couldnt see them, optical there but small.. full zoom could make out the spars holding the centre reflectors up.. well impressed!!
