Title: Wiper Mistary
Post by: Big Rich on May 21, 2006, 15:39:17
I have a windscreen wiper mistary :?

The problem...

When you use the wipers they work no problem but sometimes they will wipe all the glass and sometimes they stop before returning to there "parked" position and sometimes don't get to the full wipe possition.

It seemes to make no differance if the screen is wet or dry.

Its anoying when they stop half way up the windscreen.

Anyone know how to sort this out?

Many thanks in advance.

Rich

if when they stop can you then push them down easly by hand? if so the gearbox's are probly worn.

if they dont go down by hand the park switch might have corroded up.

Don't now what causes it but mine does it as well, usually sorts itself out after ignition has been turned off for a while so I suspect it's something in the electronics.

     Mine go off the windscreen both ways (up/down), then work normally then go off screen again......quite annoying really but they work and it doesnt seem to be ruining the wiper rubber.

Sounds like the park mechanism in the wiper unit, its usually a contact setup (or used to be when I last stripped one).

They keep the motor turning to a set point on a crank in the case, and then it cuts off the power and it stops

If you can get then unit out, its possible that the contacts could be fouled up, but more than likely they will be shot. It will work ok, you just have to park them on the stalk. Unless you replace the unit

Mine has the same bloomin problem even after a recent change of wheelboxes, i was wondering whether the motor is on its way out.
