walked the dog over the local field come nature reserve
the pikies have turned up two days ago andthere is rubbish every where and deen dumping old bath rooms ect and been wheel spinning transits and quads and totaly ruind the kids football pitch to
-
In Stoke-on-Trent, Nr Tunstall they have a specific site just for pikeys. Great bunch ....unless theyre trying to tarmac your drive or fix roofing that doesnt need fixing.... then they aint so great.
Yeah its got little outhouse type buildings next to the caravans and is pretty clean, theyve been there for well over 20 years. Should have more sites like that (its on derelict/waste ground) as it would save the problems your having Bob.

Just wait.
It will be the 4x4 drivers who get the blame again as if you blame the "traveler community" then thats race discrimination
-
theres a couple of sites they use round here 1 is near a coke plant so stinks of gases and i doubt anyone but pikies would live near it and i've never heard of any trouble the other is near a lake i used to fish, whenever they were there there was trouble.
it all depends on wether they respect the land etc most i've seen dont

There was a shooting involving travelers last week in newcastle - two guys where shot on a travelers campsight (it was an illegal camp).
The group in question had been moved on a doxen times since january from various sights around the area and there where estimates of £25000 for the clean ups that of had to be done for the combined sights.
At the moment they are converging around here as "the hoppings" fair starts next month on the town moor so they always seem to attract them
-
people woulnd mind them so much if they kept the place clean, but they just use it as a dump and move on leaving tax payers to foot the bill
-
make sure everythings well locked up if the fairs due stuff normally goes missing when theres a fair on
-
last time this group were here it cost £35,000 to clean up the mess they left

not so much of a worry where I am as we are well away from it.
Cant say anything about theft but there is always an increase in trouble.
The hoppings is supposedly europes biggest fair so all the chav's from miles around congrigate at the sight.
There is a perminant police presence on sight but theres still all the fights etc and trouble from the chav's.
Not so much trouble from the showmen as they tend to regulate there own community and these are families who have been doing this kind of thing since the year dot.
They arnt the pikies (dont get the two confused)but the pikies tend to come along at the same time and try and dub themselves part of the community with the showmen
-
we have em here to rogin around the industral estates nothings safe
-
they once pinched 600 gallon of white deisel from out tanks at work, and when our driver was driving through the market place, the gypo shouted 'hows your diesel?'
-
We had some 'proper' gypsis round here. They were a delight. When they left the site was cleaner than when they arrived
Its the tinkers/pikies that cause the problem, or did. About 5 years ago we had some camped not far away. A 'well respected' local yoofs house was burgled. EVERY window on the tinker site was broken the next night. They left in the morning and havnt been back.
-
Some European travellers arrived at our local new football stadium a while ago, never seen so many grounds officials and police arrive to "move them on" so swiftly! Now why is it my call to the police takes at least a week to get any response!!!!!!
-
we had some pitch up on the green opposite our local mp's house, who happens to be a close friend of the chief of police.
they were gone the next day.
but when they moved onto the field up the road it took 6 weeks to get them moved on.
hmmmm. makes you wonder.

That's the problem Bob - the "pickies" give them a real bad name.
We had some round last year, and loads of stuff was stolen from the surrounding houses, including my neighbours KVM motorbike while he was on holiday.
I have a few IR camera's on my house, and the one on the front caught them in the act, but worryingly enough, they were on my drive peering through the windows a few days before.
Some more were back last month, and actually set up "camp" in a local nature woodland spot used by the local schools! Getting to it in a 4x4 would not be a problem, but they managed it in transits with caravans on the back! As people have said - the place was churned up, all the signs smashed (or shot at), and rubbish worse stuff left behind when they were finally (after 3 weeks) moved on.
A friend of mine works at the local Brooklyn Ford garage. When he was an apprentice he was approached and threatened by them to get them spares etc. every time they were in town.
Label me a bigot if you like - but this is just wrong. I hate the f***ers, when I see them arrive I know it means trouble.
Horness [steps from soap box]

The real Gypsies are no trouble at all, we ocasionally get them around Southampton and the Forest. Tend to setup camp, hang about for a few weeks and move on.
The Pikeys just create utter devestation the crime rate almost always doubles and if the setup in some of the dogier coucil estates all hell breaks loose with the friction between them and the chavs.
-
we had new age travelers and they stayed for about 6 weeks and when they were moved on you woudnt know that they had been there
but this lot are just animals what would the rambles make of them tearing up the foot paths but they dont get mp support to do anything about it
-
Lets face it, these parasitic scumbags ought to be rounded up and shot!.
The council (who I work for) took 6 wagon loads of rubbish away when they eventually left.
We have them on fields near us on a regular basis and the amount of stuff that gets nicked while they are around is unbelievable.
One unfortunate old dear near us let them "fix" her roof and the next time it rained the water poured in. A local roofing company said that they had never seen such crap work and that it would cost at least a couple of grand to put right, B***ARDS !. :x :x :x
-
they set up in a retail estate near me a while back, trashed the site and went round in vans stealing from garages & sheds. nobody went near the shops until they were gone (a few weeks!). The place literally stunk of crap, there were nasty looking dogs running about and knee high rubbish just chucked in the car park. Hate them!
-
Hi,
they were around us at christmas time - there was a real crime wave, three pubs got broken into , they pinched my generator out of the caravan front, someone tried to get into the house whilst i was by myself (i now always lock the front door), lots of other hits in the village- it is not just speculation, they were seen - but as usual, the police were not interested.
Regards
ela

Its the same in all communities - you get a few idiots and scumbags that cause trouble,do damage etc etc and the rest all get tarred with the same brush.
From past expeariance though it seems that its the minority of the traveling community that are genuinely decent people who have chosen/inherited an alternative life style.
-
horay they have gone
that was quick
and the council have cleaned it already
just the ruts in the football field to get sorted
-
We had them near work for two weeks. In that two weeks we had 9 car radios stolen, one set of alloy wheels, several fuel pipes cut and the office broken into.
Did I mention that the garage is directly opposite the police station?
Absolute scum, every time something big happened like the wheels or the office a couple of irish blokes in a pickup would visit the next morning asking for water for the "horses" or whatever. Police couldnt prove it, you cant give em too much grief or they will just come back and wreck the place. Someone had the right idea earlier in the thread, line em up!
-
The wife's cousin had the best idea a few weeks back, Told em to get off his land they did'nt so he sprayed em with s**t, made the papers and the news,
people have sent him letters & money with a note saying well done have a drink on me.
Soon moved though mind he got hit with an iron bar that was thrown at the back of his head for his trouble but it shifted them!.....

Least here you could sue the police for being so useless.
Then again, least here you could shoot the [person of questionable parentage] when they break into your house and get away with it.
-
i hate them, they're vermin and cause devastation and destruction wherever they go.
tony martin for prime minister...

Is that word considered a lot worse over there than it is here or what? Because I find it highly amusing that a forum script would censor such a mildly offensive word.
-
We had some turn up in a picnic area in Keynsham. They left so much crap it was unreal. It's the disregard for every one else that really gets me, and they demand the same things/rights as everyone else in the country but nothing in. Don't get me wrong everyone deserves health care etc but you need to play fair!
I've got some pikey friends that live on 'proper' sites and they are pretty good people, but the majority of them really can't be trusted, thieving scrotes by nature! I never leave my car unlocked when I'm there, even if I'm only 10ft away.

Tony Martin went to jail for shooting a burglar.

should have been given a medal not a jail sentence

Well, I think your all very unkind to the poor travellers. I think that they provide a service to the community.
Think of all the work they create. They keep the Police, the councils and other authorities busy, when they would normally be sat around doing nothing.
They keep our countryside jam packed with all the stuff that we like to shift on green lane clearance days.
They, along with other useful members of society, help us to keep vigilant by giving us a reason to buy anti theft stuff for our vehicles.
And don't forget that they provide a rich source of cultural background to our otherwise impoverished country.
Just think. Would Ford have been able to keep the Transit as the top selling van without them?
-
The council could always give them a job tarmacing green-lanes. We get to use them and in a few months time the grass grows through and holes appear so they look like they did before   We could still do lane maintenance as well
-
Good point! Perhaps they could collect all the burnt out cars and take them in for scrap as well. I see a plan forming here, but wait, if they were employed, that would mean they would have to pay tax, national insurance etc. Somehow, I don't think that would happen.

yeah and some one has to use up all that old string I suppose for dog leads and all those old 1960's junker coaches
