Title: RUST!
Post by: marjan on May 27, 2006, 16:08:35
Just done an oil & filter change on my "other car" which is a 54 plate TDCI Mondeo and was absolutely amazed to see loads of rust on the front suspension arms, I thought that these days they would have had a heavy duty anti rust coating or may even been galvanised!.

Its a Ford :)

Actually I would consider taking it back to a main dealer or not and asking about it, cant do an harm and on a component that helps hold the wheels on I know I'd want an answer.

Not strictly true, I had a Focus for 3 years and never had one single problem.

These are built up the road from me. Untreated metal components are frequently left in the rain so they are rusting before they go on the car.

Funny note, Ford's factory roof at the Transit plant is rusted through ...

I'll have to check SWMBO's 'Works Van' then ('04' plated Mondeo TDCi) & see if it's in the same state

i've got a '93 fiesta with 112,000 on the clock, thats going well, burns a bit o' oil and the wire to the alternator corroded through a few months ago (i've had it 6 moths / 5,000 miles now) but thats all (fingers crossed), i'm quite impressed to be honest. No major rust that i can see.
