There is only 1 version of Plasma rope... and that's Plasma Rope. (Plasma 12 is a trademark) ;-)
As with anything like this... look carefully at the specs of the rope. For Plasma on a winch of that pull, you'll need to use 11mm
Plasma is one of the few ropes which specifies it's breaking strain as a made-up assembly. The strength of most synthetic ropes are quoted straight of a testing machine, and don't take into account the weakness introduced in the process of splicing, etc.

I can recommend Plasma 12 Strand, but as Tim says, go for 11mm with that size of winch.

Thanks alot guys! :)
I've been looking into the Dyneema Bowrope aswell! Amazing how much you can find on the web! Read so many reviews now my head hurts! :(bloodshot):

got Bowrope on mine and it seems very good, Its been used repeatedly and has never doen anything unexpected.
As Tigger rightly says its when you know or join ropes that is the waelest point. Amsteel is also very good and their is plenty on eblag

i use the plasma on mine and i feel much safer than using wire.........when you hear the wire twang it sends shivers down me spine..........seen so many people get hurt (not knowning what there doing) i think its the only rope to use.
As for the 11mm rope i dont think you need that for a 12,000 winch.........the 9.5mm is good for 17,500lbs..........thats wht i use on the H12.
-
Cheers for that guys!
I was looking at the 10mm Dyneema Bowrope or the 9.5mm Plasma to be honest Richie, so is it great minds think alike or fools rarely differ?? ...reckon I'll head for middle ground!
Thanks for the info Bulli!

Do you need to pre-tension the stuff on the drum like you do with wire rope?
-
Sort of and you dont spool the rope the same way as wire.
-
I stick by what I said... if you are using it hard... go for the 11mm and never have to worry about it breaking ;-)

I understand where your coming from but doesnt that reduce the length as there would be to much on the drum.
-
Just my experience, but it's quite rare I use the full length of rope on mine. Tends to be short pulls to get onto good ground again so I can drive away :-)
Also, your winch is more efficient with less rope on the drum.
It's not about the length... it's how strong you can pull with it ;-)
-
yes its thicker and takes up quite a bit more room but its better than it breaking when you are well and truly stuck.

Ok guys........thanks for the info and advice/experience........if im right the H12 is 12,100lbs so should not cause any problems with the 9.5mm rope (used right of cause)......and that is only on the first layer on the drum...........which like you say.........you dont always need the full length.
