Title: Possibly a little help required next Saturday
Post by: Thrasher on May 29, 2006, 15:20:50
Hello ;-)

Next Saturday I may be having to drag my new van back here to have the brakes looked at. The problem I have is that the van is much larger than my previous one, and I'm not that good at reversing vans. In order to get it *back* into the storage bay I'll have to reverse it (unless the people behind us are still away).

So...um...does anyone have some spare time on Saturday to travel from Northampton to Weldon (you can sit in the back of Bagheera and watch TV!) and help me?

If the caravan place can sort it on the day - I'll even throw in a pub lunch.

Whilst I'm unable to help on this occasion(being 140 miles away and all that) next event you are at that I'm attending I'd be happy to give you some basic instruction that will help you with most situations.

BTM - I *can* reverese - but putting it between 2 vans with 2 ft either side of mine makes it a tad difficult - and let's add the van *behind* mine. This van has no rear window......without a spotter I fear I'd be in trouble  - and I'm not a strongman - so manually pushing is *also* a problem!!!

I'll find out when I can drop it off and call someone who's volunteered ;-)

Thankyou so far for the much appreciated offers of kindness tho!

Maddy will be at a Yoga day (she is training to be a Yoga teacher) which is why she can't help me :(

Its a Landy, if they dont do one, someone will

True though, they may not yet but give it time, the old series have there uses though

I agree though even with experience in a tight spot its better to err on the safe side and have at least one spare set of eyes outside the vehicle

Ours has got to come off site in 2 weeks as SWMBO has bought a static instead & has px'd it.
First time towing something that size with the 110, can't wait :D

Not that I'm overjoyed about swapping a 'BWSOW' for a 'BWSWW'

where my van is stored it is between 2 other vans and a van behind behind me and I get it into its spot 1st time everytime and even the legs wind down onto the blocks I left there from before.

How do I do it I hear you ask.......

Well...........

I have 2 patio slabs both sides of the wheels on both sides. (4 slabs in total). I fiddled a bit when I 1st parked the van up and then put the slabs infront and behind the wheels. When I reverse into the gap I know that when the van goes over the 1st slab and sits in between the other 2 I am in the perfect place.  also when I towed the van out the first time I did it in little bits ie a ft at a time and sprayed white paint on the floor and so ended up with a curve that the van wheels follow so I know the near side of the van at the back doesnt hit the van the opposite side. I always reverse in round a right hand corner so I can easily see the white line.

This maybe of some help to you in the future when on your own.

I am exchanging on a house near Daventry this Friday and fafing around with a rockery on Saturday so I can move a shed the weekend after and hinge a fence pannel to get my caravan into the garden. So I would have been close enough to help.
