Is it easier/quicker to take engine and gear/trans boxes out as one piece to change gear and trans or just drop out the bowex. need to change both of mine due to water ingress.
Also, anyone know how to water proof a gear box :?:

Chris when i changed the gearbox/transfer box on Cliff's disco i just dropped the two out of the bottom in one piece. the only struggle was lifting the replacement boxes onto the jack in one piece. If i was to do it again i would fit the gearbox then bolt on the transfer box seperately.
As for waterproofing other than making sure your extended breathers are o.k along with the relevant seals/gaskets i don't know,sorry...
hope this helps

if youve got water ingress then you need to strip, clean and rebuild the boxes with a sealant on each joint face, and then replace the breather pipe connectors
to remove the gearboxes, do it in one lump using an engine crane in through the passenger door and 2 tow ropes doubles up, you need the car on axle stands as well
and the best of luck

Thanks both.
The water is getting in through the gear stick opening, at the top :!: :!:
Someone said it could be due to the body being lifted and the "air trap space" has gone, allowing water up and over :!: :!: :?:

try removing the all the trim from above the gearbox, and checking the small rivets that live in the selector plate, one may have dropped out allowing water in, there are 3 rivets to check, but 2 are hidden under a small casing around the main gear shift
