Title: LArge Dogs and a Discovery
Post by: barny on May 30, 2006, 23:49:30: Lookin to buy a Disco very soon after the range rover classic's eaten all my money ! Anyway after reading up on disco's one thing bothers me. Although the boot space [when the seats are up] is very tall, there doesnt seem to be much lying down space for the two large german shepards we have.

Does anyone have any views on this ?

My dog practicaly lives in mine, along with the fishing tackle, spades, jacks, bowsaws, ropes, chains and shackles, axe and other tools. Not forgetting the spare water, emergency recovery/survival equipment and an army 20x15 camo net . . . . there's loadsa space as long as you don't want to put people in the back . . . . besides they are usually only a nusiance and complain about the bumps anyway :twisted:

Failing that, get a 110 pick-up with a hard cover. No landy was ever big enough in the back for everything . . . . that's mainly why we all fit roof racks when we go off anywhere . . . . . they're not just for fixing lamps to, it's so the dogs can still come with us :lol:

Looks like its a seats down then, or poss take em out as its farily rare we used it for people use. Mind you that was cos it's a 4.0 v8, the diesel may get a fair bit more use.

The 300tdi i was going to see has fallen through now, anyone know of a good 200/300tdi for sale anywhere ? Looking at about Ã‚Â£1300 to spend or so and will travel for the right car - just as long as its not the naff blue interior !

just make sure there is nothing of value that can be chewed :wink:

HeHe !!!

I used to have a couple of Danes BTM. I used to get them in a three wheel Reliant Coupe and drive around Wakefield with them hanging out the back windows.

Didn't half get some funny looks :lol:

i have seen two alsatians in the back of a cherokee before and that is smaller than the discovery so you will be fine.

although its quite amusing to think you are relying on your vehicle's purchase based on carrying dogs.. its what the roof rack is for!

The seats are protected by waterproof covers, the dog sits on a huge lump of 'vet bed' material, and wears a full body harness that attaches to the middle 3-point seat belt (I don't want 18kgs of Springer belting me round the ears when I stamp on the anchors !!!)

I've got a mate at work who drives a Mk3 Chavalier - and he has both his 'Aussies' (Australian Shepherd dogs) in the car most days.........

.... i can picture it now, two GSD's dressed like Biggles hanging on for dear life on the roof rack !! :D

There was plenty of room for her to lie down and if she wanted to sit up you would just see her head and neck over the rear seat. so not to much room if you had to brake hard, so therefor she didn't fall over. Dogs don't need too much room and if on a long journey then I am sure that you and they would stretch your legs.

Not a chance - wouldn't dream of it !, but it's quite a laugh seeing the 2 dogs sitting on the back seat of what could be a world-record vauxhall, it's done over 300,000 miles, on the same engine and 'box !

They just get comfortable and go to sleep in no time at all.

Post by: Banstock on June 06, 2006, 12:40:14: On the way up to the DOC national on Friday we saw a tryke with an open wooden box on the back and in it were two GSD's :shock: and very happy they looked too :D
We used to take two GSD's in the Disco very happily, now have one GSD and one Saluki they are also fine but prefer the 90 as we have storage drawers in there so they have a large flat area.
