me, the mrs and the littlen recently went on holiday to cornwall. we went in the disco took 7 hours!! while i was there the disco develouped a niggling problem in the form of the transfer brake light, it flickers and comes on every-so-often mostly when i was travelling down hill. has anyone had the same problem, if so what can i do? :-k

Check your brake fluid level.

By "Transfer Brake" I assume you mean the Hand Brake on the transfer box?
In which case, pull the electric window switch panel out of the centre consol and you should see the hand brake switch in there. Check the connections on the switch and that the switch is mounted correctly.
If it's the normal braking system then start with the brake fluid as Paul suggested.

Are you sure it's the transfer brake light? Is it a light with a circle with spiky bits on?? Comes on with the handbrake as well as the one with an exclamation mark?
If so it's the gearbox and transfer box temperature warning light.
-
Na the temperature is all fine i havent had the chance to yank all the lektrics out. but its definatly the brake itself. the light that flickers is the same as the one that comes on when you engage the transfer brake. whats the worst that can happen coz i havent much time on my hands at the mo, but if it could become serious then im gonna have to make time.

Can you describe the picture on the light that flickers?
-
Same one as when the hand brake is applied?
there should be 2 a red one and an orange one.
If its the red one then your brake fluids low
if its the orange one then you need some new pads as the wear indicator has worn through

When you say "engage the transfer brake"......do you mean diff lock ?.......if so it could be a faulty switch/wireing or the diff lock has not dis-engaged properly.
-
no the diff lock light is a different one the one im on about its the one that comes on when you put the hand brake on. and it only flickers, it is my understanding that if iv worn through the indicators then the light would stay on (checked the pads anyway and they were fine.)

When you put the hand brake on there are two lights (or one?) that come on. Which one of these is the light that is flickering?`
-
its 2 symbols but one light the 2 symbols always come on together when i put the handbrake on.

brake fluid then, or it might be the float switch on top of the brake res thats playing up, check the wiring to it aswell
-
I have had a couple of instances of this. It is where the switch is adjusted so much, that even if the Hand Brake Gaitor holds it up a little, then the light can flicker.
Just test how soon your light comes on, buy letting it off and applying it slightly. If it comes on almost straight away, i wouldnt worry.
If your really worried, back the switch of a little, and see if it still does it. :)
Hope this helps.
