Title: Body Panel work
Post by: Disco Bristol on June 02, 2006, 20:33:00
Hello,

On the rear of my Disco where the mud flap bracket is bolted to the body panel is totally rotten. :(

I have bought new brackets (to be fitted soon). But how best can I fix the aluminium body panel.

I was thinking, I should cut out the rotten bit and epoxy some aluminium mesh on the back of the panel and then using filler to make everything level. Then re-spraying it.

Am I thinking along the right lines :?:

And what and where do I get this stuff from? Can you mention a few brand names.

Please help

Many thanks  :!:

not 100% sure where you mean at the mo, but if the section is ally, id cut it out and pop rivit a new piece in its place with a bit of sealer round the edges,

but i think that the rear where the mud flaps are, floor section is steel....?

just go to your local sheet metal workers mate, i no some through work, but most will sell you a bit cut to size or just some off cuts etc. it aint exspensive. the last time i had some off cuts of ally and steel it was free, but then ive put a fair bit of work their way  :D
