just wondered if anyone on here has fitted power steering to there sj from a vitara and how easy it is?
-
Try ready brek........
Mi Mum had a SJ and had no probs with the steering

I've believe that the box, pump and resevoir from a scapped Vitara can be bolted into place.
The SJ engine block evan has the pump bolt holes already cast in, and all that needs sorting out are the pulleys and belts.
mind you, how should I know, I haven't bought a Sammy yet.
But todays the day!!!

Adaptor plate to mate to chassis/steerbox is required for the vitara box, or redrill and tube the chassis mounts....
The vitara pas is pretty weak anyways, so why bother?????
I run a carlton pas box mounted via an adaptor plate to the chassis leg.
Slightly modified pitman arm, and a vauxhall pas pump.
vauxhall pipes all fit as well.
Ive got 275/65-16 Anacondas, and Itll turn them with no effort at 12 psi on tarmac.
Ive heard rumour that a Jimny box does go straight on, but Ive not seen it done. Believe me tho, a Sammy with bigger tyres and PAS is so easy to drive off road.

i was just thinking of ways to get rid of the crap steering box on the sammy as theres loads of play between left and right lock.
-
Check the rag joint. this can tear and give lots of play(the little round rubber thing next to the box)
Fill the steering box with EP90 and give it a workthru.
Adjust the steering box! I dont know wether you know the adjuster(screw and locknut) on the top of the box can be adjusted to smarten the steering up. This helps lots.
