Can someone explain just how much fuel is now being wasted by people adding flags to their cars????
Add to that the number of them on the motorway cluttering up the hard shoulders......
Environmental terrorists ;-)
-
And as for GreenPeace with their fleet of gas-gussling boats
See Martin Hodders comments in the current issue of 'LRE'
-
and the RA, after taking our rights to drive legal lanes want more land to trample over. They want the rights to walk through private land owned by hotels etc  They won't be happy till they rule this land by bullying

see now i thought that :? saw a van with about 10 on the other day
-
its not just people adding flags to their cars
its those with aircon full blast and with the windows down
tut tut tut
oh and those who fancy a ride out into the country when its sunny.. in your big engined mpv's!
hrmph

I hired an LDV maxi van the other day to shift some stuff and I did 200miles in it and I put in £20 worth of diesel. 10p a mile. I was quiet suprised on how good it was the cheap side but very taky n horrible to drive everyday.
-
Just been on the news about it now one car with two flags will use a litre more fuel. And all the cars will produce an extra 30,000 tons of carbon
-
i've got 2 flags & the air con blasting in my rangie... probably on the greenpeace wanted list now!
Seriously though, the mileage is so crap i doubt it would get any worse if i towed the whole bloody flag factory to be honest
-
But the Chinese government should thank us for boosting the economy!!
-
There was something on Radio 1 last week that mentioned you burned about a £1 extra.
-
yeh i heard that £1 extra of fuel per hour of driving, think there bloody stoopid anyway wonder how many accidents have happened so far with flags hitting cars on the motorway?
-
I must say i hate the bl**dy things. Everywhere you go the side of the roads littered with them and to make it worse we sell them at work
-
Whilst Thrasher is clearly trying to be humourous he does actually have a semi valid point.
the "world" cup will no doubt use a rather dubious amount of energy to pull off, not only is there (I believe) a specially constructed stadium, but air flights to get the teams and spectators to germany, people driving to the pub, the power to run the stadium lights, sixteen million kettles and who knows what else...
Music concerts, Formula one, Ice Scating, not one of these hobbies is "carbon neutral", so why is it only our passtime that gets criticised for it ?
-
probably on the greenpeace wanted list now!
You already would be, driving a car which makes a hobby out of destroying Rain Forests by the square mile
-
Hmmm although this may be humour doesnt it seem pot kettle and black, because we or somone doesnt like them we slate them. Thought that only ramblers had opinions like that and didnt allow anyone to have there own life.
-
I have two flags on my freelander and it doesnt seem to be making a difference to mpg. However it does show my support to our country
-
I already support my country, I pay dubious amounts of money in Tax, National Insurance, Road Tax, Fuel Duty, VAT and who knows what else, do I *really* need a flag on the car to point this out to everyone ?
It's doubly ironic when you consider that a fair amount of the people with the flags on their cars (certainly around this area) aren't supporting their country in the afformentioned ways :)
-
I am patriotic but dont have flags to show it. My little lad who is 9 has an england flag in his bedroom window though.
-
I showed my Patriotism a different way - buying a british vehicle :)
-
You know Mars have changed to "Believe" for the World Cup and sent these around Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland as well as England, even though ONLY England is actually playing?
Well, there is a printing company up here in Scotland selling T-shirts with this on it!!
I thought it was quite good and apparently the sales of Mars in Scotland has taken a nose dive since they introduced the new packaging.
I've read that Mars bosses tried to save face by putting up billboards with "Believe 2010" and the Saltire behind it to try & make it look like they were supporting Scotlands bid to host the 2010 World Cup!!

Football should have a TRO for 8 years :)
-
Why restrict it to 8 years?
Let's face it, we don't get this sort of hype for the Olympics or Commonwealth Games and there are fare more people from the UK taking part in these events than the World Cup & they don't get anywhere near as much money for the hard work they put into getting there.
For the money the England team earn in a year we could have some world class training facilities around the UK instead of our world class athletes having to go to OZ or the US to do their training!
Wembley is another waste of money, why only a football field? It's not as if we are exactly lacking in football fields is it and yet our "National Sports Centre" at Crystal Palace is crying out for investment!
To give you some idea, we have something like eight Olympic size swimming pools in the UK. Austrailia has 13 in Sydney alone!
Each major city in the US has at least one Wembley sized stadium and they fill them every week, either for American Football or Baseball. How often is Wembley going to be used, if it's ever finished? :?
If we want to do well in international sporting events then stop building Wembley Stadiums and Millenium Domes and give us something that can be used by everyone to help find & train the best athletes the country, as a whole, has to offer, no matter what the sport!
If we are really that good at football then why do all our top clubs consist mainly of foreign players?
Steps off soap box

I have never seen the attraction of either taking part or watching a bunch of doofus chasing a ball about.

There is probably a lot of people out there that don't see the attraction of taking a land rover to bits or playing in the mud and we certainly know a lot of them don't like us driving the byways, but instead of becoming like them and moaning because someone else wants to do something we don't really like, why don't we all become better than them and say each to there own and lets all get on with life. OMHO of course
