Title: SJ indicator fitting
Post by: V8MoneyPit on June 09, 2006, 16:34:08
I got fed up with hacking bolts off to change the suspension, so I started chopping the front end off insead! I had some rust between the wing and front panel, so I cut this out and built myself a box to take the standard light unit. I must say, I'm quite chuffed with the results.

Last night, I did the other side and then built a number plate bracket off the cross member tube. I made it to fill up to the bottom of the front panel to protect the radiator. Even managed a bit of panel beating and shaped to follow the underside of the front panel  8) Not the greatest workmanship, but I'm pleased with the results.

Now back to the suspension. Just got to get the rear springs and dampers swapped. Oh, and a little bit of arch cutting on the passenger side front (are all SJ's different left to right??!!).

The sills have been replaced at some point and the front end of each side is different in the wheelarch. This means I've got tyre clearance on the right, but there is a bit of a 'box' extending forwards from the sill on the passenger side. I will be able to chop it back without any trouble though.

Wheel arch extensions are made from 8" wide 6mm thick rubber :)

I'm doing the same on the Vitara  :D

I looked at doing this because I sell them, so can get them really cheap! But the wing curves round and would need 'bulges' to fit the Defender/Mini style lamps. I decided that the box underneath would be easier to achieve. It could be used with a pair of round lamps though.
