this may have already been discussed in the past ,but what would a recovery helpline for members by members ,such as those willing to submit thier phone number to help other mud clubbers out of the pooh should the occasion arise , would club reps be willing to hold numbers etc or is this a completly dumb idea    i know im always willing to help a fellow member when the need arises   just a thought guys

In Thoery it's a good idea, but you've got the problems with Member Locations ect...

With Planning could be a very good idea.

Sure, I think we'd have to split it into areas of a set size across the country and have a list of names that one person could keep hold of in each area.

In the event of someone grinding to a halt they ring that person, give them the dietails then they ring whoever is closest at the time.

Just my idea anyway.

sounds good to me   for practical reasons though, i would say there would have to be more than one person who holds the phone numbers,in any given area

btw sorry but I was not voulenteering to hold the numbers.

The best thing I can think of is can anyone remember that map of all M-C members that floated about a while ago (and gave a few a Virus IIRC)

See if we can find that again and base it off that.

What I was aiming at was that maybe only 1 or 2 people at all hold the numbers, that way you don't have to remember so many when you go out. Like a central control centre so to speak.

the only reason i thought about this ,is some people greenlane alone or pay and play and yes we all break our motors however well we maintain them .also some members may not be in the aa rac etc ,and its possible to move a motor from one end of the country without the person helping you leaving thier county  you could meet dozens of clubbers in a day lol

Ok, Your aiming more at a Repair Service than Recovery then, I see.

Sounds good.

a lot of members dont maintain thier own vehicles ,opting for garage repairs ,so mechanicle help would not be possible for those persons , i would say most or nearly all members do carry a tow rope though and this was what i was pointing at ,be it pulling someone out of a ditch recovery off a green lane or just to get them home or to a garage

I've set this up for all the members that turn out to support the Leicestershire pub meet.

I've put together a contact sheet listing all the members that are happy to be called out should another local member require assistance.

Might be worth mentioning it at your pub meet.

I'm not great when it comes to serious repairs but I don't mind getting a call anytime to help someone out... and it's nice to see others think the same. Sort something out and you can have my number with pleasure...

great idea, maybe put the names and numbers into county lists, so you can print them off and keep them in the landy, so if one cant help then phone down the list till someone can  8)

Andy, thanks for the pm, your first on my list.

To all other West Midlands area members, if your up for this pm me your contact details and what times, services etc that you can offer.

Please also confirm if you wish the data to be open to all or just the regional rep and a nominated second (to be voted for).

To the other regional reps, if this takes off in your region/s, could the list be circulated to the other regional reps in case we visit, or alternatively, when were going to your area, obtain the latest list before going.

Chris

Guys, Its a great idea,  :D
When I did an off road event last year, the organising clubs policy was in the event of a breakdown to try and get your vehicle mobile or to a place where you could be collected by the Break down services.
EVERYONE should join a recovery scheme ( its not that expensive)  so that---ONCE the club members have rallied round  :D - if you cannt get back under your own steam, at least you will be accesable to the recovery services.

yes

As Paul said earlier, the best way to get recovered is to get to know the people first, get yourself to the pub meets and get yourself known, if I got stuck I can think of a list of locals who could possibly offer assistance (and already have all the numbers - and they have mine).

We did toy with this idea a while back but it didn't get anywhere as there were too many suggestions of it being open to abuse (people laning alone, and getting regularly stuck, people being called at midnight, etc).

Don't let me put you off though, keep talking

What we really need (admins *knock knock*) is a sticky with every who's doing what area in it.

Also, this may just be me but I think each area should have 2 people minding the numbers that way if others are not able to answer the phones then all is not lost.

Also, a booklet with the main contact numbers in to print out and stick in your car would be a good idea I think.

I think that BWORC (Bristol and west off-road club) have something similar. They were having a meet in a pub and I got chatting and they gave me a list of members and their numbers. Never used it as I always forget it!

Practically speaking i think a list of willing members and the area/s they are able/willing to cover. It takes another cog out of the system and puts the responsibility of having the numbers with the driver and not someone who is away for the weekend with the family or something.  :D

Would be good if it was easily updated, so if you knew you are away for a weekend you could put a note on it.

Who ever is the regional rep for me in Bristol can put me down, crap with spanners but perfectly capable of pulling and pushing!

Yeah I think that would be better..........then if you have a list of people you are bound to get someone who could help you
