Trying to fault find the reverse lights. Bulbs seem OK, can't see which fuse to check. Where does the connection plug into the gearbox on a LT77 on a 200 TDI
Anybody Know?[/b]

hi
on the LT77 reversing light switch is located in the rear of the main transmission selector housing. and is accessible from under the vehicle.
on the R380 is located in the left hand side of the transfer gear box.
use a continuity tester with the reverse gear engaged of coarse, when it makes contact give it half a turn more and lock in place.
hope this helps

We ended taking the centre console out to get at the switch. You can just about get at it from underneath, but you need small hands!
Never did get ours working again, no real problem, you don't need it for the MOT and just use hazzard lights when you reverse.

After lots of feeling around under the vehicle I could not trace any wiring coming from the back of the gearbox selector, so I decided to remove the console to have a better look! :(
As you look at the rear left side of the selector housing I could see a small (poss about M8 size) hole with a thread and some kind of molding beneath it..............
NO WIRES!
...................I am guessing this is where the wiring is supposed to go?
Felt around for wiring elsewhere that may have been broken and can't find any.
I know reverse lights are not an MOT failure from what was said earlier in this thread but over here they are!!!!
If I can get a replacement connector to go into the back of the selector can anyone with the knowhow please suggest how I can wire it up so that it works?
I guess I will need to draw power from the fusebox, but my electrical skills are.............not exactly a skill
I'll keep my fingers crossed!

I assume the reverse light switch is just a make/break switch. If I was in a hurry for an MOT i would go straight off the battery (with an inline fuse of course) :D via the switch to the bulb. Does the wiring have to be tidy to pass? As long as it works....
I am sure someone will be along soon with a propper way of doing it!

No as I have the centre console off I can hide any wiring under there.
Now I just need to find the part number for the missing switch......
Anyone got any ideas?
Am even contemplating hiding a manual switch for when I go into reverse.

the part numbers are
CDU51 pre vin ma 109621

ftc 4241 is probably the most common used
