OK so I've managed to shear a bolt on my spare wheel carrier.
Wheels are Firestyles with 235/70 BFG/ATs on them.
I can find folks selling spare wheel carriers, but will I just end up shearing another? Do I need spacers or special wheelnuts to make it go?
Answers on a postcard with part numbers and quantities please :)

There shouldn't be anything wrong with that tyre size on a Disco's rear door. I had a 33x12.5R15 (with a bit of modification to the carrier location) on mine without problems.
What wheel do you have it on, alloy or steel, and what wheel nuts are you using?
Any idea why it's not securing correctly and what were you doing when the bolt sheared?

Its fairly common for the studs on the carrier to come adrift.
Take the carrier off and weld the stud back in place, or take it to a machine shop and get them to mig/tig it back on.

Wheels are OEM copies of the Freestyle, called Firestyle. They are alloy and I was using the wheelnuts supplied with them and a locking nut. The stud sheared as I was tightening them down, I couldn't seem to get the wheel secure before I ran out of thread, hence wondering if I need spacers at all.

The wheel nuts that secure my Freestyle alloy on the spare carrier are standard steel wheel nuts. I once tried an alloy wheel nut and it seemed to run out of thread before reaching the wheel.

Must be one of those LR things :roll: - I've got a Firestyle as my spare at the moment (shortly will be in the For Sale section!) and the wheel nuts work fine. :?
