Title: Clutch Time
Post by: Sharpshooter on June 18, 2006, 15:59:58
Well the Disco has now done 105000mls, and i think its time for a new clutch.

What else is it worth changing whilst im there. Ive heard about the clutch arms and the thrust bearing, but anything else.? Cheers Wayne. :D

Not really, but I'd do the whole lot whilst its apart. Plate, cover, arm, release bearing and fiddly little plastic clip!

No point in not doing it properly, you won't want to do it again in a hurry!

Ive been doing them on 44 tonners for 5 years. But i somehow think i might get someone else to do it. :)

What does the plastic clip do?? Does it hold the release bearing to the release fork???

Plastic clip does exactly that - don't blame you leaving it to someone else.  I've done the one on the racer, but left the road car to a specialist!

had mine done on saturday, did the one in my old defender myself, but didn't fancy it on the disco so paid someone else.

you want to change both parts of the clutch, the release bearing and the operating arm (fork) there are a lot of problems with the fork spliting where it pivots inside the bell housing (my last one did just that) so its common practice to weld a little plate over the back of the fork to reinforce it.
