Shawshank Redemption
best prison film by far
-
MMM the Crow, superb,
My problem with Swordfish, and for that matter lots of films, is the stupid car chase. Sorry but ive seen TVRs and big american SUV's cant keep up with them for 10 yards let alone a 5 minute chase.
I know its a film but some realism is required, surely????
-
Spy Hard (And possibly anything else with Lesie Nielsen in it) They just take such a different view on films, hilarity ensured.
On the matter of car Chases, anyone seen bad boys II? The Cobra vs the 911, no way would the Cobra even have kept with the Porka.
And the S3 vs Hummer
-
Dew , the cobra is a Carroll Shelby special. I think the engine is called a Barn burner and would have killed the german crap stone dead.......
March 1962- Shelby-American begins operations at a shop on Princeton Drive in Venice, California, and hires Ray Geddes, a Ford finance business school graduate who comes aboard at Shelby-American to coordinate the program with Ford. Among his first duties are his efforts to keep Ford's involvement at a low profile due to Ford's liability concerns. Shelby creates the original Cobra Roadster. Fatest production car ever made at that time; 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.(thats impressive now let alone then,Bulli)
April 1964 - After Sebring, Cobra led Ferrari in FIA points for the GT III championship, and Shelby-American decides to go to Europe to race. Two months before Le Mans, the Sarthe circuit is closed off for testing. The Cobras and Ford's new GT-40 are tested at Le Mans. Later, on April 26, the Cobra competes at the Targa Floria. Oddly, the new Porsche 904s triumph over Ferrari, followed by the Cobra.
Taken from the Carrol Shelby website
http://www.carrollshelby.com/about.htm
The Cobra was beaten in racing by prototype Gto porsche and Ferrari, it won the american series. The 911 gt whatever is a road car not a top level racer.....there would be no contest...it is 7.2 litres after all..
-
I'm not doubting that the Shelby will have had the raw grunt, And trust me I do know what a Cobra is in terms of a car, but there is no way that it managed to put over 600bhp to the road without ANY wheelspin and accelerate the way it did.
The Porka would be better balanced, used more modern axles, drivetrain, technology and would have mullered that Cobra off the standing start. By the time it'd stop shredding tires on the tarmac the Porsche would have had an unassialable lead.
-
You are thinking along the right lines but dont forget the cobra was no ROAD car it was a finely balanced racing machine and as such was built to launch quickly and use its power through the corners....its not a drag racer
Didnt you read the 3.9 0 - 60 time...that wasnt even the race car. So how quick is the Porker 0-60? Theres you answer ...slower.
If it did as you said then it would have been no good to race as every slow corner exit would waste the tyres ...so once again i say Porsche 0 - cobra 4.....
-
justseen that new film called cars animated talking cars i enjoyed it
-
-smokey- and the bandit, top movie
-lockstock-, excellent
-layer cake-, theres another
-pirates of the carribean-, now an all time fave
-
finely balanced racing machine and as such was built to launch quickly and use its power through the corners....its not a drag racer
Exactly...
As many drivers (on the road) found out to their cost when it tried to kill them.
The 427's (7.0litre) versions were in the Guiness Book Of Records as the fastest accelerating (standard) producion car for years
Being pedantic, that should really be 'Out Of The Corners', not 'through' (unless you want to really scare yourself
From memory, a 427 will do;
0-60 = 4.1
0-100 = 8.8
0-110-0 in about 12.5
165MPH
The 289's not hat much slower, & the 'Dragon-Snake' (drag-racing special) accelerates even quicker
Alright it's a stonking great big V8, BUT, there's no fancy gimmicks to aid traction (either for acceleration, or braking) & it was also in the mid-60's
On the matter of car Chases, anyone seen bad boys II? The Cobra vs the 911, no way would the Cobra even have kept with the Porka
Ever seen 'Gumball Rally', with te Cobra 427 & the 'rag-top' Daytona?
the sequence of racing & pirouetting in the Los Angeles storm drains (as used in one of the 'Terminator' films) is simply exquisite
My problem with Swordfish, and for that matter lots of films, is the stupid car chase. Sorry but ive seen TVRs and big american SUV's cant keep up with them for 10 yards let alone a 5 minute chase.
Yes, I can quite safely say that 165MPH in the wet in a Sagaris, is both intoxicating & scary
:(scared): :(biglove):
-
And you reckon bikes are dangerous
-
And you reckon bikes are dangerous
By that I reckon you mean the 165MPH bit??
That was on Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, with the cars owner driving
(ie; LOTS of run-off space)
