Title: help p38 overheating

hi i`ve a p38 2.5dt and it start to over heat i`ve change the thermostat thinking this may fix it but no still  overheats so i look at the water pump and clean the rad but still i`ve the prob.... no water in the oil don`t think is the head so any help i would be greatfull cheers

Only thing i can think of is air in the system run the engine when its at normal temp see how hot the top of the rad is compared to the bottom of the rad If there is a big differance then bleed the system for air and feel your top hose if its soft you could have air in it. or double check if you have ac that the fan is coming in and not just the ac fan. Or switch the heater on hot air and feel how hot the air is coming out of the vents if its cold then it is air in the system. take it, Its not leaking coolent out of the exhurst or anywere else?

Whats the rad like? I had this in my Disco, when I eventually changed it and looked at the fins on the old one I was amazed it had cooled anythign at all.

THat said I hope the 2.5 TD isn't prone to it as I changed the Disco for the same car. Well imprressed with it though.

the cores in the rad can become blocked after a time. buy your self a non-contact thermometer, and measure the temp around the cores in the rad and on the engine, that will tell you where the water is not going.

Please keep us informed; I have been towing a lot over the last few days and have had the gearbox overheat message coming on.

hello well i think its fixed pick it up to nite all seams well couple of guys i know have had it for a few days and back flushed the engine steamed clean the rad fixed a gearbox leak and all seam very well i`ll see what happens in the next week........................
