Quick question guys.
Tried to start my 3.9 Hotwire injected engine on sturday and it didnt want to ply at all! :( I had just driven about 25 miles fine, left it for about an hour ish and then tried to start it.
Will turn over fine.
Plenty of fuel if you remove the pipe off the regulator.
No spark at all!
AA guy came and tested the coil....... OK.
He then tested the dizzy....... not OK.
He then removed the Amplifier off the side of the dizzy, and recons thats the cause of the problems after testing it.
Got a new one to try on Sat, but wondered if anybody else had any suggestions?
Just a word ow warning also, if you do need to purchase one of these amplifiers, they are obsolete, you now have to buy a 3 pin version and an adaptor cable that costs almost as much as the amplifier, BLOODY Landrover!! :evil:

Woo Hoo!!! She's alive!!
After finding TDC as the AA guy hadnt marked anything up, and fitting the new amp, she's fine!!
I have set it to 3 deg BTDC and it seems fine but do you think i should go furthur as i run LPG?

didnt use an amp on mine, just the lumintion straight on the coil. and it runs like a dream.

I'd think the static timing was further ahead than 3 degrees so set it back to standard, if you go any further it will damage your engine to run on petrol very quickly.
Running on LPG you can go probably about 5 degrees further to get the best out of a HC 3.9, some engines like to go to about 10 degrees further I'm told, some depends on how weak the mixture is.

i got that figure out of the haynes manual, and off the plate on the right hand bank, the haynes manual actually said 2deg BTDC +/- 1deg. I even tried setting it about 2 deg after TDC and it idled like a bag of s**t!
Am i miss interpreting what the manual says?
