Hi I have a 95 discovery tdi auto. I have been running it on 100% biodiesel
it seems to run very vell I have covered about 2000 miles. changed oil and filters inc fuel. .Has any body got any views or experience with this fuel. :D
-
I used to run my old 50th Anniversary on Bio whenever I got near the only supplier I knew of
However, I didn't keep it long enough after finding the supplier to do a full running report.
But, it ran fine on it for me

It's supposed to be better, like the catalytically cracked super diesel that I think BP sells (it costs more) it's cleaner burning, has better emissions and so leaves less cr4p in your engine. Provided it lubricates the fuel pump (which it does) and burns then you can pretty much stick anything in a diesel but Bio is meant to be good.
Pub trivia, Otto Diesel's first 4 stroke engine ran on coal dust.

So long as it's not into a Td5

Then he jumped off a ship in th mid-Atlantic, or was he pushed? (no-one ever found out)

I was told his first engine ran on peanut oil?

It did run on that fluid as well

I understand you can run most diesels on SVO or WVO (after filtering), and that older Land Rover Diesels are particularly good using these as fuels.
Anybody using it?

maybe

I started using WVO in my Isuzu lump (2l 4x4 Midi van) about 2 yrs ago and its fine, usually mixed with mineral but if Im on a run itll be neat.
I have now just started to run my 110 200TDI on it with slightly different results :? Neat and its not a happy chap but mix it with a bit onf mineral and its fine, I have just fitted a heat exchanger and heated filter and will try it again. I will probably end up with 2 tanks but from what I have read I shouldn't have too.

if the ambient temp is high (20deg upwards) mine will start & run on neat ok if a bit lumpy to start with & once warmed up goes fine (200tdi)

Is that new or waste oil?

new,
20L for £11

To be legal which I know we all are 8) thats 80 odd a litre, waste is a bit more work but less than 30 a litre. New does work better as no matter how long it settles, waste is always mucky, I certainly wouldnt use it for cookin.
I would like to have a go at proper bio but thats even more time which is a precious commodity this day n age..

Here is a site that should keep you interested if SVO etc is your thing.
http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_svo.html#intro
As far as I'm concenred the jury is still out . . . .

I,m running a 50/50 mix Veg oil /Diesel runs fine ( 200Tdi ) .I ve registered with C/E and get my form every month. If you want info ring C/E and ask for form EX103, easy enough to do.

This site is pretty useful too :

Hmmm . . . . getting me thinking now.
Just done the Maths and it's shownig a saving of around £25 per tank . . . . but then there's the hasle with tax and forms etc.
Now where can I get bulk supplies of rapeseed oil on the cheap

I found a site the other day that did aconversion kit, you filled the fuel tank with used filtered oil or new veg oil, and there was a 20l tank in the boot with Derv in that, was used for the first few minutes till the engine warmed up, and the last coulpe of minutes before switch off, that way no probs with blocked injectors or filters as the derv flush's the system, I seem to think it was about £500 so would pay for itself in 20 refills if you save £25 each refueling, and you can stick your ? upto anti 4x4 prats in there nissan micra's.

Any chance of a link to that site ?,
Thanks John.

I hadn't put in Favourites took awhile to find

a cirtain Ms "Daryll Hanna" runs her range rover on bio permenantly . . . . . .
-
Round my way there are three garages that sell bio from the pump
79.9p a litre,
The 200TDi runs on it all the time, it actualy runs better !!!
but.... be carefull, many modern common rail diesel engines that have injectors running at very high pressure can not use it as the bio does not provide enough lubrication for the injectors.
My old company car was a VW Passat and it ran fine on it, manufacture approved etc etc but my Toyota did not like it and needed £3k of repairs after just 3 tanks of it !! lucky for me I had asked the dealer and they told me they thought it would be OK, turned out it was not.
BMW engines can run on BIO but in there technical sheets they say you should specify when ordering that you want a bio compatable vehicle something about different seals or something. I found this out as I'm currently choosing my next company car.

yes no problem,if the ambient temp is high can run right up to 100% without problems

All this talk of using veg oil in your motors, has anyone tried cooking a meal using diesel instead of veg oil yet ? :D
