Any suggestions for companies that sell reconditioned steering boxes? For a Discovery 300 TDi.
Famous Four do them at £150 + VAT exchange ... any other suggestions?
[edit]
just found MM 4x4 (http://www.mm-4x4.com/Shop/page115.htm) @ £80 + VAT!

Also recommend Paddocks for price & reliability.
We got one (At the time they were advertised as NEW!) and it's been great.

Just make sure you get the right one Gords. If you get it with the drop arm make sure it's not got a ball joint in it.

why?

300 tdi ball joints are in the drag link not the drop arm, unlike defender ones. Damn sight easier to change too ;-)

So, isn't just a case of saying "one steering box for a Discovery 300 TDi 1994 please"?
-
hi
steering box for 300tdi is a 4 bolt type :) this is used on lots of land rovers but the arms are different. it should be a straight arm for 300tdi same as 200tdi.
you can just order a box and try and get the arm off the old 1 but i have heard that pple have broken the shaft getting the old 1 off (10 ton of preasure req) therefore you will loose surcharge if box is not in servicable condition.
plus its not expensive to buy so will save you an hour of messing around.
if you order 1 from paddock they will ask for vin number so they know what type of arm u need.
if you are going to change the box yourself it is a good idea to have a helper to lift it into place as its very very heavy and akward to do by yourself
hope this helps

You can swap arms around on the drag links, or screw the correct piece into the arm to match it up, did that when the steering box was different on the arm, not too expensive to buy the part

Well, I ordered a recon box from Paddocks today, quoting my VIN - let's hope I get the right one!!
