Title: Kinetic recovery straps. Any good?

Hi there, I knackered my standard strap on sunday pulling out tree stumps with the old jeep, I put the shackle on wrong and shredded the sides, only bought it in march :cry: . I was wondering what other people thought of the kinetic straps?

good for recovering other vehicles but not to be used for "pullin stumps out"

should only be used on suitable strong recovery points & by some one who knows what they are doing

:shock: please DONT atempt to use a kinetic strap
for pulling stumps or anything like that not unless
you enjoy said stump joining you in the vehicle
at high speed..

Don't worry peeps. I never had any intension of using a kinetic strap for pullin stumps. I will be buying a regular strap for that kind of work. In essence I was asking is it worth buying a kinetic for recovery alone as I will already have a standard strap.

:) yes in the right curcumstances a kinetic it a very useful bit of kit
but be VERY sure of the strength of what youre ataching it to
before you use it on both motors as the forces involved
can effortlessly shear off weak or poor recovery points
that would appear to be fine ordinaraly..

like a hi lift use but use with care..

sorry if i seem to be laying it on a bit thick but i have seen
the damage that an improperly used kinetic can do
frighteningly quickly

I understand what your saying. It is effectivly a giant rubber band, we all know how much energy can be stored in one of those and how much it hurts if your on the receiving end. my personal choice would be a good set of chains but they are expensive, heavy, collect all the mud and rubbish lying on the floor and not very practical. However when they do break there is almost no recoil, less than a regular rope or strap. I just like to look at all the options.

Kinetic straps are great.............for pulling apart rusty old series landies.

Kinetic recovery done safely requires two drivers who know how to do it and who work well together as a team. Having said that I have seen a defender un-bog a Bedford TM using kinetic ropes.

Nothing wrong with HiLifts, Tirfors etc 99% of the time even if they are a little more labour intensive, for both recovery & stump pulling.

Kinwtics can do a lot of damage but then  so can strops when the stiching rots.

IMHO you cant beat a good spliced 25 mm nylon rope as the astenings are self tightening and it offers a degree of shock absorbtion that avoids damage to either vehicle.

Plus it floats!  :wink:

I find the kinetic recovery rope a great bit of kit.. if used properly... Ive used it over a dozen times in the past two weeks on pay n play days to pull stuck vehicles out.. not needed any help even with the really bogged in ones... so yes, well worth having..    :shock:  but use with care :shock:

Thanks for the input everybody. still not sure i'm going to get one as it's more kit in my jeep that probably won't get used very often. cheers
