Title: too much water
Post by: discograham on July 06, 2006, 04:40:40
Ive now got 7" of water on my patio..  one more inch and it's in the house... :(   ... so much for drainage...
... and a well flooded front room where its come in somewhere above the patio doors... :( ..

The splashing on the carpet woke me up...

Thankfully the electrics are dry and I'm insured.

And this is July ?
--------------------
Oh well... a couple of hours on and Ive got a soaked carpet, soaked curtains, ruined wallpaper and god knows what the plaster is like under it....     :(   BUT...  I moved the t.v etc,    and the electrics are dry.. still got a swimming pool on the patio though... ...  could be worse ...

My attitude is that it's only an inconvenience..  when all's said and done it's only a bit of drying out and re-decorating and no real harm done... BUT... it did go past dpc level and seeped under the door frame..... worrying.. as its a cavity wall...

I just wasn't impressed being woken at 3am ish...
Now for the phone call to the insurance company.. blood and stones comes to mind...

Not as far as I know... yet... but give it a few more days of torrential rain and they will enforce one....

And crash.     The road was being pulled apart below that water, with the discharge shifting the whole manhole covers and breaking up the road.

It's dry now, but you can see the damage it did to the road, as the road is hardly smooth and there's great big cracks everywhere.   Elsewhere in Oldham there are really long and wide cracks/splits, and in some places the road has sunk or gone through where a water channel had failed.

 Poor you, Graham hope you and your family have somewhere warm and dry to go until everything is sorted out.  We got a lot of rain here and I was expecting the interior of my Disco to resemble your house but spookily enough only a few drops got through the sun roof.
Hope you can still make Billing, we will be there from the 17th behind the Craddocks tyre over the stream.
All the best, Annabelle

I hope everything is okay... I have been there but I lost everthing upto 4ft up from floor, the car and was out the house for nearly 9 months (this was in 1998)

All i say is insurance asser works for the insurance company and not for you

Mine was'nt ... just bad drainage... and an extension the neighbours had last year my have something to do with it...  as I've been in the same house for 26 years with no previous  probs....
