Something is NOT right if you have to do that! I would suggest not ussing it till you find out which fan/heatsink is clogged/not working.

Please dont tell me you leave it running at night too? :)

Hmmmmmmmmmm

I have my own noisy solution to a warm pc  :D  :D  :D

that's 3 extra fans on the side and two in the back (have an exhaust blower in the top ISA slot.

This machine works 24/7 for cancer research, the processor going at 100% so it NEEDS some extra cooling.

Your right it, it isn't... I don't leave it running overnight, but all the fans are clear and working... I reckon Compaq just didn't fit enough. What you can't see is I actually have the case side off and its blowing straight onto the CPU.

Could you not put an extra fan expelling air from the back ?

Most Pcs have vents at the back ready for a fan to be fitted - all you need is a screwdriver, it takes longer to open the case :)

I build my own pcs but I only have one side fan drawing air in and a rear one expelling air. Of course there is the powersupply fan and the cpu fan. Stays cool.

Thats the best way of cooling. The same amount of fans blowing out as in.

If the Compaq is still under warrenty give them a call as an over heating CPU is not good. But an over heating power supply will also cause it to reboot.

It's got 1 and 1 CPU fan and that's it. The Warrenty is with PCWorld and all they seem to want to do is go through Heatsinks at ten a penny. I might just take an Angle grinder and make a couple of "Modifications"

Try ebuyer.com for some extra fans.

dew....if you want extra fans i've got loads...either buy one off me or get yer arse over to ebuyer.com and pick a couple up....about a quid each from memory.
my pc case has fans in the top and side drawing air in, and 2 on the back chucking it out.
other thing i did on the fans drawing air in was fit mesh filters - its amazing how much dust they collect..i just unscrew them and clean them periodically.
