Quote from the last 5 minutes or so ...
"I got in dads old jeep and just drove"
old jeep
OLD JEEP...
it was a series 3 109 LAND ROVER
thats one for points of view I think
apart from that not bad
-
before that monunental faux pas. I wasn't a Dr who fan but was slowly warming to it. Unfortunatly that line calling a landy a jeep has runied it!
-
first think I thought was something to do with can advertise as land rovers a brand name ...but then whats jeep
-
you need to consider the care factor of those who wrote and those who obtained the vehicles for the program
the writer may know his jeep from his lr but the production mgr (i think thats the right one?) may not and a 4x4 is a 4x4 to him.
an oversight on his part and on others for not noticing the difference before going on air which upset those who know which is which.
not sure if you write in if the person reading the letter will take you seriously
just a warning in case nothing will be done about it
-
I've got to agree with that afront to Solihulls dignity.
But!
Don't forget to Mr & Mrs Average (including BBC scriptwriters), JEEP is just a generic term.
For example;
Any vacuum cleaner is a 'Hoover';
A ball-point pen is a 'Biro'
A cola type soft drink is 'Coke'
etc......
All brand-names but carelessly used by practically everyone
-
That's the best looking jeep I have seen

probablly nothing will come of it but here we need to be heard
just sent a complaint now
and if any one from the BBC cant tell the differance heres a simple test -
THE ONE THAT SAYS LAND ROVER IS NOT A JEEP
-
Considering Land Rover copied the Jeep, I do not see a problem
Also as a footnote, some of you guys really need to get some "real" issues in your lives...To say that the reaction is anal, is an understatement.
Just my 2pth...

Totally agree with BTM, all my friends refer to my suzuki as my "jeep". No matter how many times i correct them
Average Joe wont care what dr who and co have said
-
Disregarding the fact that I drive a Jap motor I will not be complaining.
For once it's a bit of TV on the beeb where a 4x4 is NOT seen as public enemy #1 :D :D :D :D
So let them slide on the description, they DIDN'T have a go at us.
Trev
-
at least they used a ex-mill land rover it could of been worst and use a smart car
-
Even my 7 year old daughter said "Rose its not a jeep its a landrover "
-
Yeah, they should have said "Poor mans Jeep"
Face it guys, "Land Rover" is never going to have the same ring as Jeep, same as Dyson is the copy of a real Hoover as pointed out above, You don't go to "Electrolux" that rug, you hoover it. Anything that looks ready for mud is a Jeep :)
-

Apart from Jeeps of course :(biglaugh):

Exactly what I was going to say. Landrovers came from Jeeps
-
Hey! Never mind the bl**dy Jeep business we've just spotted TWO of our lasers parked in the backround!!! Both pointing at the the Dalek globe.
Both machines must be at least 15 years old.....how wierd is that?

the imitation has supased the original then
-
Did anyone else see the crew member hiding behind the LR on the beach? When Rose hugs her mum the crew member step forwards of the wheel then back again :D
-
there is a bigger issue here
no more billie piper
-

I have a friend who has Cat diggers and joe public say to him "just when are you going to move that JCB...?" as you can imagine it dosn't please him, therefor taking him longer to unblock the road.

I rang Autoglass on Friday, according to their system the LSE is a Land Rover Jeep Ranger.
For heaven's sake, pick one, that's 3 different cars, and it's not the Jeep so don't insult me and it's not the re-badged Mazda.
Anyway, the right glass did turn up but after an hour the guy gave up defeated and put my car back together, unfixed. Apparently it's a 3 hour job in the depot, not the hour on the end of my drive he'd been given
I wasn't amused
-
Must admit.....I missed the insult to landie owners when it was referred to as a 'Jeep'.......I was too busy feeling sorry for them making such a long journey in it! Long way to drive an old Landie!
Now......where the hell is my hard hat! lol
-
Good point, roofus, but I imagine they really didn't go to Norway, probably didn't go as far north as Watford, but looks good to say the old landy went from London to Northern Norway though
-
Sorry guys but I do think it's a bit sad to get that upset about something so silly.
Look at the meaning of Jeep rather than the brand; it about sums up the earll LR's anyway.
-
I have to agree an old jeep come on BBC get your facts right

Wasn't this series all filmed in and around Wales ? - somewhere on the coast IIRC !

Indeed, Jeep have extended this not very off road tradition even further with a vehicle that is
"not intended to be off-road capable"
Its meant to be a cheap Range Rover according to this Press release (http://motoring.reuters.co.uk/reuters/vocmain.jsp?lnk=101&id=1777)
-
The head writer a chap called Russell something, is gay and the Jeep is a 4x4 long been assocaiated with the gay community. as seen in "As queer as Folk".
Runs for cover............
-

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Doctor Who'.
I was very pleased to read of your appreciation for the series, however, I understand that you were annoyed that a Land Rover was incorrectly referred to as a Jeep.
