Microsoft are ceasing support and security updates for Windows 98, 98SE & ME from July 11th 2006.
More info in this BBC article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/5164450.stm

Apparently the scribes now use pens and paper too.... ;-)

Trouble with that not all systems will run on xp, especially the old ones

My mums just got a PC running 95-B, that not get updates either
-
Have they been updating 98/ME etc in a recent timeframe then? Have there been many security updates? I don't know, because I don't use them. But if not, I can't see it'll make a huge difference.

I read this article as well. I did have an old set up upstairs with 98 on it only because I could not install XP on it.

I was running Win98SE untill about 6 months ago and yes there were security updates being issued by Mircosoft upto when I got the new PC. There may have been some after that but I'm not sure.
It was just to let anyone still running these systems that they were no longer supported.

I use an old box running 98 for the web, anti virius, spyboot and firewall all up to date so haven't touched a M$ patch in years - the script kiddies are just hacking xp anyway so I think its safer :)
If you think you need anything down load it while you can and save somewhere...

It's only because there isn't much you can do to improve 98 anyway, the SE stands for Stable Edition, must have got out under the radar as it's one of the few operating systems that's any good. Usually they have to be a bit pants to get a Microslop label on the box.
