Title: Vent seal replacement
Post by: Ollie on July 11, 2006, 17:25:17
How do I remove the front vents to replace the seals :?:

Tell me I don't have to remove the dash, I've only just got the bloom' thing back in there

Cheers

Take the split pins out & you'll be able to pull the vent covers forward to fit the new seals. :D

After removing the split pins from the drivers vent, I'm not able to access the foam seals. Infact, I can only just get my fingers under the vent, with the vent in the open and closed position.
Any other ideas please

One thing I have noticed on Laila, when the vents are at max opening, the actual opening is relatively small, is this correct :?:
I'm sure I have seen some LR's with the vents wide open

Mine don't open too far either, but they still let a nice rush of air in.

C'mon people, has nobody replaced the vent seals?
I need to get this done before the next rain season, as I could have kept fish in the foorwells the other week :(blackeye):

One of the things I truley love about the 110, no fancy Air Con, just open a hole under the windscreen

Mine get very tough the further down you push them, but I've found since I started using them they have got easier.

Maybe yours haven't been used in a while and stiffened?

Say they were just not used for a while, I doubt ours were as they were damn stiff the first few times.

Mine actually don't leak either, that's a good thing :D

OK, now that the new vent seals are in place, I can't close the bloody things :(thinkhard):
They are certain to let in water now

Any ideas

I know it's probably due to the new seals, but can't understand why they will not close :!:

Which seals did you fit, the thick old style rubber ones or the thin foam-rubber ones which were fitted to later Defenders? I never got on with the old type and use the later ones on my 90, no danger of them stopping the vents closing.
