I have been to billing today and was watching by the the mud run and couldnt believe the recovery I saw
A very shiny new disco tippy toed into the brown stuff and got stuck. The recovering vehicle a D90 specially equipped with an amber beacon got his rope out and after wasting time trying to find a shackle!!! ( yes - a rescue vehicle with no shackles!! d'oh) he then proceed to pull the guy at 45 degrees side ways up the slope - his 90 then slipped down the slope as you would suspect and nearly pulled the disco onto its side! - why on earth didnt he pull him straight back???? the consequnces are unthinkable for the owner.
defies belief - these are supposed to be well trained! whoever organised that needs a good slap!

Not even all the gear though by the sounds of it! :roll:

I watched them over the weekend.... and yes, the recovery crews at one particular section were more of a danger than a help... they did'nt have a clue....

First thing I was taught about recovery
"As a gerneral rule, the safest and easiest route to get anything out is along the way it went in"
rule 2, wherever possible the weight of the recovery vehicle should exceed the weight of the immobilised vehicle
rule 3 never pull up a slope at an angle with a single line
Living by those simple rules I have never had any serious problems, seems this guy broke all 3

i've worked as a marshall/ recovery driver at quite a few shows (mostly LRO ones) and have seen some terrible behavior, these days i'm very picky about who i get put with, theres one guy who does the LRO shows who i wouldn't trust to tie my shoe laces, let alone recover my truck...
most of us do know what we are doing, are sensible and professional... theres just a few who are a danger to themselves and those around them...
as far as i know marshals are not 'tested' before hand... although they should be...

Although I enjoied the show thoroughly I was apalled at the H&S arrangements on the show ground. I shudder to think what the offroad course was like.

i must admit on the friday i was at the mud run watching a nice family in a disco poodle through had a nice splash and got to other side where the little fella handed em a leaflet with the youve been photod details etc etc
so they stopped and collected as some nut case in a v8 came blatting through at slightly more then the speeds suggested was a very close call :!:
