What time was that Neil and which direction? We left around 4pm and had a small-ish queue while everyone gawped at 2 - 3 cars crashed and on the hard shoulder.
There was at least one car upside down in the trees  One had no rear bumper and was facing the wrong way!

Just after 5pm Gords....

Should have gone north. :D Mainly a clear run. Bit off a hold up for road works, where a Merc CDI nearly got a well loaded 90 in his boot, (mine), when he cut in just as I was pulling away. Various theories as to what CDI stood for followed. Couple of problems with middle lane hoggers. One coming from behind wouldn't move over to let me pass a wagon, though nothing behind him. Another who I moved over for to let him pass a wagon, wouldn't move back in, clear road ahead, and drove along side me, leaving me stuck in the outside lane. He then turned off a mile up the road. as did the first prat

I only live up the road from Billing. We had to take the Mog back tho...can't believe people that left after us got home (to Southampton) before I got home from Billing!!
-
3hrs! How many miles? Took us 5-1/2hrs to do 260.
-
We hit the tail end of the queue northbound at J14 (on the way home from visiting my gran in hospital in Hemel Hempstead), but were lucky enough to get off there and travel via Newport Pagnell.
From the sounds of reports it was quite a bad one.

3 hours to do 2 miles from memory.....

Wouldn't of used the supercharger much then...................................

Sounds like we were lucky then! Went south sraight through London and only one time it got a little more crowded in front of a construction zone. No jam at all :-))
Thanks again to all whom we could meet for giving us such a warm welcome! The Camper is now proudly wearing an MC sticker:

Was nice to meet your guys. And the beer while I was holding the tent down was much apreciated :)

God I bet that Supercharged RR used more fuel in that jam then my dads van did on the 200 Mile Journey home!
-
I wouldn't bet on that ;-) Note it is *off* <grin>

RTA 2 Dead One survivor Nasty one !

I understand that Viven and Gary Blackmore of the Range Rover Register were involved in one of the accidents on the M1 that day. I don't know any details beyond Viven's e-mailed apologies for some Register business being delayed. I understand that their caravan was destroyed, but no injuries were mentioned.

In traffic jams like that it is useful to have a caravan in tow or have a camper van! How jealous are people when you have cooked up a bacon butty and a cuppa tea and they are all sat in thier cars

Hi all,
It was the journey from hell , getting back to Manchester. The M1 south bound was closed due to a fatal, which resulted in the North bound traffic unable to access the M1 easily at the roundabout. Hence the 3 hour queue for most people. Then apart from a couple of incidents on the M6 slowing the traffic, there was a vehicle fire near Sanbach which resulted in another 2 hour slog ...... I got home at 2.30 am having left Billing just after 6.00......
Made a note to leave earlier next year

That's the reason we left by 3-30. Past experience of getting home in the early hours. Sorry to hear about the wrecked caravan. Youngest daughter and hubby due home tomorrow with our caravan. Some kind soul ran in the back of them and did a runner. Just hope the damage is not to bad and I can get it fixed for our hol's end of August. We've only been out in it three times since we bought it last October.
