so how do you tension a new cable then?
only ever used older winches , never a new one
-
i've never used a winch at all!
-
I may be wrong......
just find a lampost on level ground, & winch yersel up to it. Next doors corsa is NOT a suitable anchor point!

I'm not sure the council would agree that a lampost is either!!! A sturdy tree might be a better idea, or i'm favouring next doors corsa

Also available from Paidia 4x4

Careful the winch goblins don't come along and have the [!Expletive Deleted!] away. There is a lot of that going on at the moment. :x
Why don't they ever get their fingers caught between the cable and the rollers? It'd be easy to identify them. Lots of DNA!

Winch all but six turns of wire off the drum then winch it back on under a small load. With mine i winch a mates motor up a gentle incline, i find it's easier to make sure that the cable spools on nicely because the winch itself isn't moving along. :D
-
whats that do then? :)
-
Wire cables have a degree of stretch in them and when new they are very springy. If you wind the rope onto the drum tensioned only by hand then the coils of wire will be quite loose (even if it does not look like it is). The wire has to be tightly and neatly wound onto the drum to prevent damage to the wire. If there is a layer of wire loosly wound onto the drum and you then wind the next layer on under heavy load, the loose wire can get crushed which is not good.
I hope that makes sense :D

:D :D :D perfect mate 8) ...looks like a job for tomorrow me thinks.....thanks for letting me know what ya mean mate......

Weld your winch and bumper nuts and bolts
Some work men near me went for dinner Parked the Unimog in the road, and some one pinched the front hydraulic winch, takes four blokes to lift it but it still went in 30 mins.
Lad at work lost his bumper and winch
