I had a phone call today about a job that i applied for on tuesday, they want me to go for an interview on Monday morning. Was chufed that they thought i was worth inviting for an interview.
Absolutely bricking it now though, just realised I haven’t really had a proper job interview.
I got my current job when I read that they were expanding so I approached them to see if they had any work going.
They did an interview but I didn't have any competition to worry about.
Any job interview tips from the font of all knowledge that is mud-club
cheers

BE YOURSELF - that counts for a heck of a lot. I have done dozens of interviews and to be honest im rarely impressed( kids nowadays)
Make sure you have a reply to the obvious questions like;
"why do you want the job"
"what makes you think you can do the job?"
"how do you feel you would fit in?"
"where do you see yourself going/ what ambitions do you have?"
Make sure you ask the questions that you need to know, how much , holidays etc. Dont be pushy but a decent interviewer will expect you to ask....... and finaly get as much info about the company as you can.
You are then in a position to make comments on the company,
ask them ..."is there anything else you would like to know that would satisfy you as to my suitability for this job."
Good Luck

i have always gone with the attitude that they want me ,, thats not cocky or arragant, just positive, works for me (so far) good luck with it
-
smile and make eye contact :D
also make sure you have researched the company so you have questions to ask THEM!
-
answer a question with a question makes you look like your interested and willing to listen to what they have to say.
-
All the above plus don't gabble on, makes you look nervous and insecure. It's OK to give short answers where longer ones are not required.

Hi Matt.
Bully summed it all up, except for;
Look your best. First impressions count, shallow I know but true.
Also, think about this:
"They don't care how much you know, but they know how much you care."
An old boss of mine used to say that and it's very true. In other words, don't pretend you know more than you actually do and show that you can listen.
Above all - GOOD LUCK!!

the job i have now (been in for just over a week) had 2 interviews by 2 different people but they were identical, same style of interview, same questions etc
i had to explain my entire career from when i left school , what experience i had , how i thought i would fit in etc etc then they asked me questions on my family, mum and dad and their jobs, brother and his job, did i know people working for competitors etc :? but i got the job :D

I have also interviewed lots of people in the past and everyone is different.
I look for the following:
Good first impression, dress smart and be polite.
Research the company to show interest and you are willing to learn
Be yourself
Be honest
The interviewer if any good will get the information they require from you by asking you the right questions
Think about the obvious questions:
Why do you want to work for this company
Why do you want to leave your current company
What can you offer to this company
What was your biggest achievment at you last company
Remember you are checking them out as much as they are checking you out
Try not to show too many nerves
Good Luck

Excellent advice....
Only thing I'd add is if they ask you to...
"Tell me about a time when..."
You need to make sure that you call on the experiences you have had to give an example. i.e. "When I worked at... we had this situation... I did this... and this happened".
The number of delegates I have had who start by saying... "What I would do is..."
The purpose of the question is to ensure that you have relevant experience so make sure you provide it.
Good luck... post again with how you got on.

Well I went for my job interview this morning. Didn't think it went too badly, answered all there questions and asked loads of questions. Was shown round there IT Department and there systems after.
I received a phone call at six this afternoon to offer my the job! chuffed to bits now.
So if all goes well ill be one of the network administrators at the high school in Chester, which is the test school for all new technologies in Cheshire schools.
One of the projects that is up and coming is the introduction of voice over IP (VOIP) through out the campus, which would one of the first projects I’d be working on.
Thanks to everyone who posted advice, it was all followed. Verry much appreciate.
Cheers

I will be based at the catholic high in handbridge, Chester but will be working at other local schools as an when required.
Pay isn't too bad and they have some interesting projects coming up that will make for good experience, also being a network admin in a school is a bit more demanding than an office environment as apparently some of the kids make it there sole mission to test the network security and proxy servers (the bit that restricts access to inappropriate sites) to there limits
Well done to you as well LandySteev =D> =D> =D>
Have you been to your interview yet dan? How'd you get on?
-
i remember in my old school they used to ask the boys to try and access porn sites to test the security, and many succeeded  but it was the best way to see how people get round the system.
-
Congratulations hope all goes well
