Ok so I have just bought 2 huge shackles and a 11,000kg ARB snatch strap. Just wondering how I attach it to my Disco when being recovered.
The shackles are fixed though two towing points on my steering guard.
Do I need a chain or something to make a V shape between the shackles so the ARB strap pulls from the middle? Or ho should I do it?

have you got recovery points on the front of the car?
if you dont then you might want to mount them to the chassis i guess
is the snatch strap one of them kerr ropes?
cos you ideally could do with a steering guard with mounts cos the steering guard would strengthen the front of the chassis from bowing towards each other from pulling stresses.

It very much depends on the situation. Generally straight pulls should be OK form one or other of your steering gaurd recovery points and pulls should really be straight anyway. If your having to be pulled sideways, then it should really be done with a winch and snatch block anchored somewhere in front to allow a forward pull.
Anyway... a bridle (strop between yer recovery points to form a V) can be useful as it spreads the load somewhat.
Hope this is useful.

What is a bridle made from, dont tell me thats another £50!!!

I loop the strop through both front recovery points and that works for me. A bridle aint big money but i havn't got one.

just a warning though because some will coment sooner or later
If you have bought a kenetic rope lean how to use it properly.
Kenetics can be a great peace of kit but in the wrong hands or used incorrectly they are a serious danger.
Have a look at

Nawwww!
A bridle can be a rope, strop or even a chain as long as it rated at the correct strength.
You can buy 2m strops designed for making a bridle.
Dunno how much but its not £50!

I've had a machinemart lifting strop (I think its 3 or 4 ton raited) and raited shackels minimum 3 ton and a couple of 4 ton ones.
Its got me and others out of bother quite a few times.
Again from the saftey aspect always use raited equipment.
I did have a couple of cheep and cheerful un-raited shackels when I first started offroading but got shot of them very quickly.
I know it may sound obvious and dont want to sound like I'm treating anyone as a "beginer" (I dont know what your expeariance is Disco Bristol) but always buy the best kit for this type of stuff.
Dont waste time with cheep alternatives
:D

yeah i do try to go for the best, my shackles are rated at 5 tonnes and the snatch strap at 11 tons.
