Off on BB3 this weekend and yesterday we all wandered to the offroad course. Being low on fuel we marked it on the GPS and headed back through the twisties to LLandovery for fuel.
On the way back, entering the lanes I was forced off the lane into the driveway and had to do an emergency stop to avoid taking out a Terrano that screamed round a blind corner. Sore at us, made all sorts of gestures and tore off again.
Bit of swearing and drove on, 300 yars up the road, lying in the middle is a young border collie, dead with a snapped neck and a skid mark comming in our direction. I had the task fo going to the house on the other side of the road and informing the owner that the dog had been killed, turned out it wasnt hers but it ran past her gate a minute or so ago on its way to the woods. Poor girl didnt know what to do so I took her over, checked the dog over again, just to make sure and thats when I spotted the poor things neck and the wound.
I'd like to thnk that ANYONE on here would stop if they hit dog, I now I would. A dog is almost always so much more than just a pet, if ewither of my two were hit like that I would be devastated. Being a collie it was probobly a working dog too.
I can only think that the terrano hit it, timing fits, skid mark fits and his driving.
Rant over, It just put a dampner on the whole day.

I'm guessign he's never had a dog, especially not a Border Collie.
Its the feeling they give you, that look with the head on one side, the 'We are every bit as smart as you are' look.
I would have cone back and pulled him over (Rabbit has siren etc) and had a word but going as he was I would never have caught him.

Totally agree with the both of you hope some truck runs him down and let him know what the dog went through.
Acccidents happen but when they do the normal thing to do is to stop

Scum.

Scum.
Got to agree wholeheartedly, the swine wants hanging.
If you reported it (both Dog & Terrano), let's just hope someone else has also reported his driving & the local Constabulary put 2 + 2 together.
The only possible (and I apologise for using the folowing word) 'good' thing is that the Collie probably died instantaneously from the impact

What a [Too rude for Forums]
If someone did that to mine I'm pretty sure I'd end up in prison by the time I'd finished with them!!! They may be "Just a dog" for some but they can be someone friend and companion. God knows the house is empty if the dogs not in for whatever reason.
It's nice to come home from work at 2am (don't ask!) and be greeted by a friendly face. The dog isn't too bad either

On a brighter not i saw a dog (smallish brown one, dont know dogs well!) knocked over by a civic a while back. It just ran into the road from nowhere, i heard a thud and it was thrown a few metres, certain it was dead. Driver pulled over & we loaded it up into his car and he took it up to the vet.
Lucky the car was a type R- low down plastic bumper spoiler thing. Leg was cut up & it was foaming from the mouth because of the shock but it was ok- saw it the park the other day.
Hate to say had it been my car it wouldnt have stood a chance

with idiots like that on the road its no wonder that 4x4 drivers are getting a bad reputation :(

Am I not right is saying it used to be an offence not to stop since it was a licenced animal? But now there are no dog licences, a motorist cannot be prosecuted for not stopping?

Hit and Run? Would be on a human.

I recently knocked down and killed a border collie - I was travelling down a country road (not speeding!!) and it ran out of a drive way straight under the front wheel of the defender.
In a state of shock I stopped looked around and realised that no one had seen me so I started to drive off - I soon (within 100yards) came round and realised there was no way I could drive off so I went back to the cottage and had to tell the owner what had happened.
His comment was "she's always doing that"
when I informed him that "she" wouldn't be doing it anymore he came out with me to examine the dog - it was highly upsetting for both of us but I'm really glad I stopped
I also reported the accident to the police although the owner said there was no need - despite there no longer being a licence it's still a reportable incident
the only reason I'm saying this that maybe the perp (tosser) was also so shocked that he took the wrong course of action
-
Seriously, hope it never happens but if you run over & kill someones pet and the owners not around what should you do?
Wouldnt leave it in the road but couldnt just stick a mangled dog in someones garden, kids would get upset. Bin is just wrong.

I agree .....God will get him That's his job ..........
It's very sad when an accident happens involving any animal or human, but not to stop [-X words fail me.
