With regard to my thread about Burgh Island (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?p=263726#263726), it raises an interesting question for one of my (infamous) little trivia games :D
I asked it before (2 years ago?), but never got the correct answer, so whilst it's in my mind I'll try again
What connects Burgh Island Hotel (AKA. 'The White House') with engineering?
-
Only that some of the suites are named after engineers - Bentley, Mitchel, Eddystone....

Nope, sorry.
It's pre-useage as a Hotel
-
Now then.
Is it because it was design to resemble an Beached Ocean Liner?
Or is it something to do with the cool Sea Tractor they use when the tide is right?
Jez
-
would that be the sand crawler thing they use
now I recon thats 2 correct answers in 4 minutes - typical you wait 2 years and they all come at once
-
THAT'S THE ONE!!
HOW COOL IS THAT?
RECKON IT'S GOT CASTOR CORRECTION?
JEZ

Your answers do allude to an engineering connection.
However, you know I think laterally, so.......... it's not a mechanical item

That's a rough interpretation of Art-Deco hotels all over the world

Got it =D> =D>
Yes, of Guest, Keen & Nettlefold fam.
Excellent, one of the links I posted does give his name (&, I think?, the engineering connection)
I'll ponder the Robin Hood link, whilst I'm at a Hospital appointment this morning.
-
Admission Time
I got it slightly wrong on the GKN link, the Archie Nettlefold was the grandson of the (joint) founder, who was JohnSutton Nettlefold.
Archie was still, however, on the Board of Directors.
Re; Robin Hood
3 things spring to mind. Probably not what you're thinking of (I'll assume), but I can be wrong too ,and will admit defeat when required
1. There's an ODEON suite (as in Oscar Deutsche Entertaining Our Nation), Deutsche's were one of the first cinemas to show 'Robin Hood' (starring Flynn)
2. Flynn stopped at the White House (as it was then) for one of the famous parties
3. I'm sure there used to be a Rathbone suite (Basil Rathbone, played the Sherriff Of Nottingham in Flynns version)
-
All good answers but sadly not what I was looking for. :?
Continue your quest in Walton on Thames and see how you get on!
The link is in there somewhere! 8)
I thought that you'd get this straight away Richard!
Think Greene!
Jez
-
Something to do with the actor who played Robin Hood,I think it was Richard Greene?
Who incidently was born here in Plymouth

I reckon Paul's got it, especially with your emphasis on Greene (with an 'E')
-
Nope sorry.
You're on the right track with Richard Greene Dracula but, was he in the film or T.V. series?
Do your research and all will become clear.
Don't forget Walton-on-Thames!!
Good luck. :P
-
Robin Hood, the T.V. series starring Richard Greene,
was shot at Nettlefold studios in Walton on Thames.
-
WELL DONE PAUL!
BURGH ISLAND HOTEL - NETTLEFOLD - WALTON STUDIOS - ROBIN HOOD!!
=D> =D> =D>
NEXT TRIVIA QUIZ PLEASE!!
JEZ
-
Congratulations Paul, & well set Jez.
I'll freely admit I was stumped over that
I'll think of a number 7 (but, then again, who's counting?)
-
Yep come on Richard! Number 7 it is!
I might try and get some zoomed in close up piccies of Land Rover parts and do an "identify that!" type quiz. 8)
I think Paul had early morning/late night surf the net syndrome looking for answers!
