Title: swivel adjustment
Post by: Jonocox on August 01, 2006, 17:40:01
Is it possible to adjust the play where the swivel joins to the hub. I think that it is something to do with the top 'peg' with the two bolts in with the shims below. but im not sure how to adjust it.

take the peg out by undoing the bolts take a shim out, re-tighten and check for play repeat proccess if there is still play
one swivle housing grease will seep out so dont think your seal has gone just simply top it up after you taken the play out

Assuming that the upper Railko bush and lower bearing or bearings top and bottom, depending on the age of the vehicle, aren't excessively worn, it is possible to adjust the swivel preload by changing the number of shims, if they've had it you'll need to replace them first. The required preload is measured using a spring balance on the track rod end balljoint hole. The preload (3.6 to 4.5 kg) is quoted with the large swivel pin oil seal not attached to the swivel housing.

It would be worthwhile having a read of the relevent part of the Haynes (or genuine) wokshop manual.
