Nice on the shores of Bassenthwaite, it's almost 'Thrasher' country as well
-
Tis indeed very nice - the church where we got married is right on the shore of the lake - next time you're travelling along the A66 look over the lake and you might just see it on the shores
-

It is now. :(
-
so i hear - the missus is up at lowther horse trials - she sounds a bit damp........
-
Indeed it is Thrasher country ;-) I used to cycle there when I was a nipper.
For those that didn't know - I spent my formative years in Cockermouth :-)
Oh and er ... oddly, I went to a wedding yesterday and assuming I get the pics soon - the bride and groom posed in front of both Bagheera and my business partners Ferrari 430 :-)
-
:D Congrats I wanted a horse drawn series I (in case it broke down, belt and braces etc..) but the missus wanted a limo guess who won LOL....
-
the missus is from just outside cockermouth
-
VTRDaz ... you've spotted Piglet haven't you....on the main street during New Year? Where is your missus from?
-
Yeah we did about 2 new years back - she's from between Broughton moor and maryport - big posh house on the top of the hill as you go out of the villiage.
-
Blimey! I past it on Saturday on my way from Seaton then to Cockermouth. :o Some how I don't feel so out on a limb anymore. My favorite pub is the Wheatsheaf at Lorton. Good beer, good food with a nice caravan/camp site at the back. :D
-
Jennings Jennings Jennings - THE finest beer in the country
-
Best place for Jennings of course is the Swan.... ;-)
My favourite pub (to drive to) is the Kirkstile Inn.....and to walk to, the Swan ;-)
-
......and got caught skiving School in the Wheatsheaf....Oooooops!
-
Kirkstile - very nice food and ale - especially their own brews.
Another good pub is the swinside inn in Lorton valley.
The Bitter end in cockermouth has some good brews too
-
Used to cycle to the Swinside :-)
..and yes - the Bitter End is a giggle too......
-
Heading back the A66 towards Penrith
I used to go in 'The White Horse' (well, I think that's what it's called??) at Scales (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=336000.000000261&Y=528000.992470438&width=700&height=400&gride=334400.000000261&gridn=526999.992470438&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=grid&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=true&zm=0&scale=25000&down.x=290&down.y=1), and the Troutbeck Hotel??? (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=339000&Y=527250&width=700&height=400&gride=334400.000000261&gridn=526999.992470438&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=grid&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=true&zm=1&scale=25000)
We used to stop in a self-catering house down at Red Syke Farm, near Wallthwaite
-
the white horse - also an establishment with fine ales and food - know it well!
A fin watering hole after a foray onto sharp edge
-
Aye, There's some good establishments in this neck of the woods. :D The down side's are the tourists and Grag Rats. :( One lot clog the roads, t'other are wearing the fells sides away.
-
Crag rat - now there's a fine brew!! have several chilling nicely as i speak
