whats the score with procomp shocks, do they come with liftime guarrentee? i heard this before but not to sure
i had a rear sanp at the weld where the shaft is welded to the tube that goes other top shock mount (you with me :D )
they were bought from paddocks earlier this year, you reakon this will be covered?
will ring them in morning but was curious anyone else had this
-
Probably not. I use em, cos they're cheap - but the warranty is worth buttons...
-
Pretty sure it said it on the box.
-
I can't be certain about how the guarantee will work with Paddocks, as that is the retailer that you entered into a contract with.
However, if you purchase direct from Procomp on their website, you do get a lifetime guarantee. Go there, add one to the shopping basket and start the checkout process and you'll eventually find the guarantee terms.
Of course, the dozen Procomps that I have have absolutely nothing in the way of a guarantee as I have fitted them to the racer (well 8 of them, the others are in the spares kit.
I'd speak to paddocks with a copy of the procomp guarantee in front of you, it might help to be able to quote it.
Regards
Wolfie

Phone up Pro Comp UK
http://www.explorerprocomp.co.uk/
And they will change them under warranty. I had one fail (threads stripped off rod) which I bought from a third party and Pro Comp UK changed it FOC no hassle.
Pro Comp shocks should be given several coats of white gloss spray paint before use- otherwise they will rust real quick if you don't.

Paddocks will re-fund it as long as youy have a receipt, we did the same on Doodlebug and they refused to give us a new as we didn't have receipt. (lost it  )
So we rang Pro-comp up and they refused a re-fund as well due to the fact that They don't supply Paddocks with their stock. :?
We ended up having to buy a new one   , but we will be making sure we know were the receipt is
-
i have the receipt for them
need a new one asap whatever as its a bity bouncy with out a shock on one corner :D

You should get a re-fund then as they do have a life-time guarentee :D

My dad has pro-comp ES9000's on his disco and they are the boll****...They have excellent articulation all round and if you break a shock pro-comp replace it immediately and free of charge... I would recomend them...you could easily off road with the 2" lift and provideing you have suitable tyres then there will be very little that will stop you...They are great...We have had no problems with them yet...
I recomend you get the ES9000's
-
I broke one after 3 days and it was replaced straight away via Paddocks... no problem at all.... I like them and they handle the punishment I give them very well....
-
I had one break in exactly the same way, and it was from Paddocks.
I had to buy another shock, as i needed one ASAP, then when I sent the old one back they refunded me for the one I'd purchased including postage AND the postage to send the damaged one back.
Pro-Comp give a lifetime warranty, but there contractual obligation is to Paddocks not you, so it will have to go back to where you bought it
-
tim m thats the same as i am doing! paddocks where very helpful and easy to deal with. new shock should be here tomorrow! :D

Yes... I'de like to add that Paddocks do provide an excellent service.. and my postage was refunded also... thats why I go back to them... and would recommend them to everyone...
-
I bought mine direct from Explorer Pro-Comp. One leaked and had to be replaced. I phoned them up, they found my details in their records (I'd lost the receipt) and then sent out a new one for no cost ... and I didn't have to mess about posting the old one back 8)
Deal direct is the route I'd recommend :)

  its very shocking that pun intended! that the amount off people havin trouble with procomp shockers in the first place ok great that they will replace straight away but when you spend that amount of money on shockers they should not be failing as much as they do! i would recomend not to use them untill procomp start making a shocker that will do the job! :( buying cheap does not pay off a good thing to look at is the welds on them and how they been grinded down correctly .....this then becomes a very week link in the shocker then you put the weight of your landy on them  a good majority of people using have failed on the welds...take a look at the australian 4x4 websites there aint many people using them on heavy trucks out there i dont expect they would last very well on corrugated tracks !

Well, I absolutely have to fundamentally disagree. I have eight procomps on my Hillrally Discovery and they have out performed numerous other much more expensive shock absorbers, time and time again.
The Scottish Hillrally is an excellent case in point. The stages take place over the Scottish moors in the Ochil range of hills south of Perth and they are notoriously tough on the suspension. The moorland is very bumpy - similar to corrugations and we race across it at up to about 70 mph. I have never had an ES9000 fail on the Scottish Hillrally and I have raced against competitors who have had 2-3 failures with their expensive Fox or Ohlins dampers. There is one thing that Procomps are and that's tough.
If you don't believe how hard I am on shocks take a look at this www.FriesianRacing.co.uk
No the lifetime guarantee does not apply to me - but the only failure we have had have been through old age or stone damage on rocky stages!
Explorer UK are excellent people to deal with and very efficient, but I am in no way related to them - nor do I get any sponsorship from them - I am just a happy customer!
Cheers

I agree Henry, sorry Colin but i had decarbon steering damper that failed after 1 month!!!! ceased solid. If i didnt want travel i would fit very heavy duty shocks like the auzzies.
Dont get me wrong it and failed shock is a worry but it may just be that people are now using procomp far more than others in the UK. Strange then that they fail more often.
It would be intresting to do a poll and see what everyone is using. Dont forget hard used trucks will kill shocks more than 'shine and show' ones.

Exactly
Lots of us buy ProComp + lots of use abuse our vehicles = lots of us have failed ProComp shocks.
Not a particularly complicated formula.
-
:D just own observation from reading on many failed procomp shockers seems that alot are selling with the cheaper lift kits ...could be a case of a bad batch been made it does happen you only have to go back a few months and it happend to a well known shop that we all know about ..like you say they probably sold more procomps in the last year than any other and as the other gent clearly says the maths work out :D
-
I have used DeCarbon on the past 3 hybrids and all have outlasted the motors, that said i have been lucky apparently because others trash them.
-

This could well be the cause in my opinion - just conjecture, but shocks shouldn't really be used as bump stops or axle check straps, and I get the impression from some of these lift/extreme suspension kits that might be what they are being used for!
On my car the front axle droop is limited by check straps and on the back by the a-frame/radius arms. Bump is limited by adequate bump stops - in my case standard.
Shock absorbers are not designed to be limiters.
-
They're a damper ... designed to dampen the impact of fast moving articulation, not for anything else, as has been stated before if you have the wrong length bump stops or tend to use them to stop the axles falling off then you are in danger of breaking them...
-
good point, most of the serious travel kits use the shocks to limit the axle. You should definatley cycle your suspension to ensure that your bump stops are the right size....that kills the shock very quickly.
Incorrectly used dampers wont last long no matter who makes em.
-
Yep - how many cheap lift kits don't come with extended bump stops? Plenty, IME.

If you get the right kit then you do not need extended bump stops. I run +5" shocks with standard bump stops. By the way they are Procomps.

Then you've moved the attachment point for the damper way up - in which case it's not a 'cheap' lift kit.

I thought Procomps have built in bump stops?
I have had 2 fail and although they claim a lifetime warranty I could not easily get replacements. I did eventually but took some doing.
I think it's quite 'shocking' about the number of failures I have heard of!!

It was not that cheep as I used OME springs as well. But I looked on it as money well spent. I think if a job is worth doing then its worth doing well.

personally I'd prefer the bump stop to be a nice chunk of rubber bolted to the place where you're supposed to have them, rather than sending the "shock" through the middle of the damper, which is only a thinish bit of pipe ...
-
Im with datalas...how does having a set of the old mans shocks stop the need for extended bump stops? If the spring becomes coil bound then its not good for the spring....for 20 quid its worth doing.
-
well, ive got extended bumpstops, i dont think i have ever had the truck articulate right down to the limit of the shock (this is a very good point though )
paddocks have sent me a new es9000 procomp shock, i have returned half the old shock,(thats all i had to post back) waiting for them to confirm and then refund,
so all in all i am happy with it again :D
