Title: Over Heating Problems
Post by: ben_haynes on August 07, 2006, 21:53:58
My disco 200TDi Over heats when doing motorway driving but i can do long runs on country roads and it will not over heat, on sunday i went from Kettering to Godmanchester (Cambridgeshire) on the A14 and then returned carrying on up to Birmingham. up the A14 and M6 and the temp gauge goes up to the red and the light flashes so i switch the heater on to cool it down, it cools down a slight amount but no real change, but if i get caught in a traffic jam with the heater off it will cool right down to just under half way.

Any Ideas what is causing it?

I have recently cleanedthe radiator of loads of mud and it is still clean. as i thought it was that causing it but it wa not.

i hope not as i replaced that when i did the cambelt in january but i will check it out, it might just need a Radiator / Engine Flush to clean out the insides

Ben,

Sounds like the rad is corroded it may be best to start with that

With this hot weather it finds out anyt weak points in the cooling system

does sound like the rad is blocked, or the fins are full of mud, all the cooling fins on mine fell out, that caused a similar fault. alan....

Checked the system for air locks or blockages?

If the pumps good, and you're not losing water, then it might not be getting around.

cheers
