Well, Challengers off to the body shop again this Monday.
For those that dont know Phoenixmad backed into it at Billing (Accidents happen, Thank the lord for insurance)
Picture of crash (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Jake/gallery/jake7/9/07b73c57545edd4c0ebadcb2e4d0fb3a.jpg/) and Picture of damage (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Jake/gallery/jake7/9/b53356d0b24f48b065809c0fdede827b.jpg/)
I've been promised a like for like Courtesy car.
I have told the insurance company i require a Land Rover (and nothing else) with a tow bar.
They have agreed but have'nt told me whats coming.
What do you reckon i'll get?
I'm holding out for a Range Rover or Discovery 3 but i reckon it'll be a 110.
I'll find out Monday.
The people that guess right will win a complete sense of satisfaction.
Post what you voted for please.
:D
-
If its anything like our landrover dealer you will get a petrol freelander
-
Tried to give me a Ford Focus !!!
Told them to (EDIT) and kicked up a right stink.
Drove home in a Series 2 Disco 8)
<Mod: Bad language removed>
-
i,d like to tick a 5 yr old petrol freelander on the poll but you dont have that option listed
-
I voted for defender 90 as it's what I would like myself but I agree with above it'll probably be a freelander
-
it will be a gaylander without a doubt...
-
sory  i think it will be a solid 90 how much is it costing i havent herd much from my insurance at the minit
-
Well if they are anything like the people Drum deals with, you will get a freelander firsts then maybe an astra, then a D3, possibley another crummy car and then after 3 months they will tell you its ready  I voted D3 though..........fingers crossed :D
-
I'd have voted for the K plate Ford Fester diesel with no working door locks, a hole where the radio goes, and a clutch that works best out of three.
-
Itll be one of 2 things, the most likely is a freelander - if its from LR assistance then itll be a ford, either fiesta or mondeo as LR is part of the ford group and thats what they use.
If however you drove a Jag and called Jag assistance then you'd get a jag not a ford.....system sucks!
-
Hope it's better than my recent experience!
A couple of weeks ago the 110 TD5 that I use through work went into
Ashcrofts for a new 5th gear and they offered me an L reg Cavalier in white with no central locking, banger racing battle scars and an interior resembling a skip!
They felt my sense of humour fail.

oh Jake old chap you would park in the less classy end of the m-c pitch at Bling. See if you'd parked behind mine i'd a made a proper job with the NATO hitch. Still thats what karma gives you for taunting people with that pulse dvd all weekend ;)
BTW - non franchised garage - anything cheap they've to hand,
franchise - elderley clapped out freelander or a fiestaery type thing.
-
I once got offered a Fiat Chincechento (sp) as a courtesy car - needless to say I declined whilst laughing as saying 'you have to be kidding I'm 6 foot!'
I phoned the insurers and said I'm not using their recommended garage's courtesy car I'll hire one and they can pay - to which they grudgingly agreed.
The irony is all of the car rental places nearby were almost out of cars due to a busy week and all they could offer was ---- a ford Ka
Just wasn't my day
-
It will be a Freelander - you don't even get a Range Rover when you OWN one as a courtesy car! (i.e. they don't carry them as courtesy - and who could blame them!)
Secondly.....they don't tend to fit courtesy cars with tow bars .... so I'll be surprised if you get one of them too......
However, you could be really really unlucky and get a D3 ....
-
...and while I remember! Adrian Flux would not insure a D3 as a courtesy car for Piglet....claim was "courtesy car worth too much". So ... um.... depending on your insurance company, they won't push out a 60-70k car when you're insured loss is the value of Challenger.....
-
When Autowindscreens messed up the installation of a new windscreen, they also wrecked the headlining.
Fair play they fitted a heated screen and payed for Guy Salmon Landrover to replace the lining,
Didn't think i could make a fuss about the Fiesta
-
The insurance company is hiring a Land Rover for me.
Its not coming from the body shop.
I have told them that i work on a farm at weekends and tow a double horse box around the farm.
A friend of mine did the same when his Disco commercial got side swiped and they brought him a Freelander.
He refused it.
They brought him a Mitsubishi L200.
He refused it.
He settled on a 110 they had to cross hire from another firm.
-
and what did you get??
-
I'll find out Monday
-
I would probally say a freebie (freelander) too. When my mums old freebie went in for a service we got a V6 Freelander :D :D Shame it was low on fuel
But you never know, when we had a TD5 disco and that went into the garage we ended up with a top of the range P38a   (quite a while a go tho  )
-
sory  i think it will be a solid 90 how much is it costing i havent herd much from my insurance at the minit
They have'nt mentioned costs to me.
I guess it'll be around £1500 to £2000's worth of work.
They are going to replace the rear quarter panel and repaint the whole near side to get the colour match.
Never mind matey.
but next time, check your mirrors

-
when my k plate disco was hit at the end of last year the insurance company gave me a nice shiny D3 with 400 miles on the clock :D :D ...... nice to use for a while but also nice to get mine back after 2 months  .
i also pull a horse box regularly
-
Jake you might get one of those panda 4x4s
nice!

Er...
I hope not
-
Its arrived!!
I have a Freelander (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Jake/gallery/freelander) Td4 5 door auto to play with.
Only one problem...its has no tow bar.
We have spoken to the rental comany and they have offered us a replacment car with a tow bar which they are going to to deliver in a couple of days.
For the inconvenience for not having the correct car in stock they are going to upgrade the modl to the next one up.
According to the delivery driver that'll be a Range Rover.
We'll see on Wednesday
well done to all of those that guessed correctly.

-
when that silly girl in her pugeout decided to park under my disco`s front wheel my insurance sent me out a brand spanking mitsi shogun warrior thingy only had 80 miles on the clock  fully loaded it was too..
lol still had to park it at other end of car park wat with it being a mitsi and all

...it's Wednesday. RR or was the guy confused and you got a TC? <grin>
-
*grumpy*
They told me that they did'nt have any biger cars in stock for wednesday.
Then i found out that they dont have any Range Rovers
But....
There is a Discovery 3 on its way to me on Friday.
I know some dont like them but personally, i'm really looking forward to having one for a week.
Time to make my own opinion on it
-
Like I said ... TC it is :-)
If you like plastic, you'll love the TC :-) Just remember if they give you an auto - press - 2- 3 - GO!
I nearly lost the rear of one of the loaners getting onto a roundabout by forgetting it didn't go when you radioed the engine room!
-
The Discovery 3 (http://members.mud-club.com/profiles/Jake/gallery/disco3) is here!!
And i'm impressed.
Its a TDV6 S Auto.
Compared to my 300 Tdi its a rocket ship
Seems strange to drive a LR that does'nt wander all over the road and brake to the right on heavy braking
Yes it's quite plasticy but i'd have one.
Nice.

Well, this has gone on for a while now.
My car went in to the body shop and was returned 2 weeks later.
The work was appalling so we sent it back.
The car came back the next day and still looked as bad but this time the body shop told us they had done all they could do (great attitude)
Neadless to say many phone calls went on with the insurance company.
They keeped the D3 on hire whilst this matter was being sorted.
A week later and an insurance assessor turned up and agreed with what we showed him
The list looks like this:-
1. rubbish paint finish (looked like an orange skin)
2. runs in the paint
3. over spray on the inside wheel arch
4. not cleaned at all (when it said in my confirmation letter that the car would be cleaned thoroughly)
5. wrong colour stripe on the side
6. broken rear washer jet
7. i've now got a green exhaust!
8. my parcel shelf is now bent
9. my new rear bumper is scratched
10. rear bumper not fitted straight and the rubber trim is half tucked under it
11. rear bumper bolts all so loose you can spin the washers
12. masking tape left all over the place
I dont need to go on now do i
The insurance company offered us the chance of further rectification by the same body shop.
You can imagine my response
Like **** was it going back to those ********
After another 2 weeks and many phone calls by SWMBO to the insurance company i decided it was time to speak to them myself.
After getting passed from pillar to post (and being on hold with the most annoying music ever)
I finally speak to the right person in the right department.
I inform them of my disgust of this whole sham and and offer them a solution.
I reckoned there was about £500-£600's worth of rectification work + another week of the D3 (which must be £300 a week)
Being an ex-valeter for a body shop I learned a few things about making cars look nice.
I offered to put right all the mistakes on my car but I required paying, for my time.
I need to get a new stripe for the side and a new rear washer jet.
The rear bumper needs removing and respraying and refitting correctly.
The over spray needs removing and the car needs a good wash.
I have already done all the work. 8)
There is a nice fat cheque for £300 winging its way to me as we speak.
Its been a funny old experience.
I test drove a D3 for 5 weeks (including off road) and ended up with my car fixed to the standard that I expected and got payed for the pleasure.
Not bad in the end
Now, I just need the D3 collecting and it'll all be over
-
Glad it ended up ok, BUT it shouldn't have gone so far as you having to do the work yourself.
Well done for sticking to your guns

Insurers are just cr4p aren't they?
First time I had to take Blue in they offered me a pug 206 or something, they weren't too impressed when I said I'd be towing the Brian James with a capri on it at the weekend. Funny but I'm still waiting for that to be sorted (snowball insurance if you must know).
When the noddy went in I could hardly demand a 4x4 in it's place, I needed it for work anyway but on the 3rd (or was it 4th) attempt at paining it I insisted on an identical replacement, the Coarser they lent me over christmas was so [PooPoo] I started loosing work because of it.
I will never accept the approved garage again, they get the job because they are cheap, they ar4 cheap because they don't employ any skilled staff. Ray Charles could have sprayed my car better.

You hit the nail on the head there RRB
