Title: V8 plug leads
Post by: ibruceuk on August 11, 2006, 23:16:51
Hi,

I'm about to treat my Disco with a new dizzy cap and leads etc.  Just one quick question.  Is it vitally important to get the leads to cross as shown on the Rave CD as it is pretty difficult to see which cross where on the pic.  Would it matter as long as I ensure that no leads touch or cross anywhere?

Cheers,

Ian

WRONG

The big problem is No.s 5 and 7, if they cross-arc you will f**k your engine so they must be kept separate.  It's not so imprtant where they cross as much as the lead for no.3 lies between the other 2.  I think it's the same story on the other side.

Just make sure non are touching and as separate as possible. use the clips provided. The pulse can cause the other cylinder to fire as RRB says ..its not the best.

3.5 Efi, it's currently acheiving between 9 and 10 to the gallon on LPG but it seems to be regardless of whether it's unladen or towing a 3.5 tonne trailer!

Petrol I think is worse, but without the gold reserves of a small country I can't afford enough petrol to get a decent mpg figure for it.

Oh cr4p, the 3.5 was the very best for economy and 19mpg is not unheard of for gentle touring.  You may be pleasantly surprised with your petrol economy as I'd imagine your LPG system is fairly rudimentary.

Try an ignition advance module, I paid £60 for RRR and about £150 from Chris Perfect for the Iwema one, keep it in the cab though as they don't like water.  It will give you a few extra BHP on LPG and more importantly a bit of extra economy.

Is your compression ok?  is your engine a bit tappety by any chance?

Is the timing correct?
