I've been browsing on 'LandRoverAddict' (http://www.landroveraddict.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=355945&an=0&page=0#Post355945) & found this thread, of an alleged prototype for the updated Defender.
If it's correct, that's a nice interior layout, complete with Range Rover/Mondeo style intrumentation
-
Not bad. 8)
I didnt realise how many visual changes there were on te santanas ?
-
As the text on apge one says, it's only a test-mule
The Santana on page 2 looks just the same as usual to me :?
-
ive been told that the engine is grossly underpowered ,as its one of fords lynx ? engines ... apparently ..from someone who works at lr
-
oooops - think they may be banning mobile phones with cameras at LR again.......

We've got some of these at work at moment.... haven't had chance to drive one though :(
The engine is part of the Ford Puma Diesel range (as shown in LRE this month). But I'm not commenting on anything else.....

Surley a little underpowered for the Debtfinder?
-
The engine is the new Ford Transit/Mondeo engine rebored to 2.8 Litres. This has been known for almost a year now.
-
wow i like the dash :D
-
phones SHOULDNT be taken into certain parts of LR.. been delivering there for a few years now.. can be very funny at times - other times I have been able to climb in the new (at the time) sport before it was released ;) also remember seeing the disco pre-launch
-
Good grief they will have to change that interior-can you imagine the state
of that after a week on a construction site,Farm, quarry,no it wont stay like that for production ,they have untill 2,10 to get it right ,the engine is the 2.8 Pug/Ford v6 d ,
-
the engine is the 2.8 Pug/Ford v6 d ,
Thought it was a straight four? But then again, I never actually remember reading what engine setup it is other than a rebored engine to 2.8 Litres that was also going in the Transit and Mondeo (in smaller form in the mondeo).
-
Surely if it's going in the tranny it won't be a V6 derv? :?
-
Think your right, just heard on radio it is in fact a 4 pot motor, going to be a while yet though,
-
argh
its the transit duratech engine thats goin in the defender, the TDv6 wont fit & is too expensive
-
Look at this on the what car website:
http://www.whatcar.co.uk/news-article.aspx?NA=221956\
Says it gonna be a 2.4 diesel with the same 122 bhp but 44 lb ft more torque. It's also gonna have a 6 speed gear box with a really low crawler 1st gear.

Those pics have been around for a while, would nice to see a bit more or perhaps somthing a little more up to date!!!
Interior changes are the important ones, they are ment to be doing away with the rear side facing seats which in a 90 make it, er, interesting! The new dash is good though, i wonder if they will add climate control instead of crappy air con?
-
some nice big pics on the right hand side...
http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm/country/ecf/newsID/2060822.008/landrover/2007-land-rover-defender-details
Looks great, just needs a V8!
-
The rear seating looks obviously far better, so long as it folds up properly in practice
(bet it's not removable; MPV style???)
-
Whilst it is good, turning a 90 from a 6/7 seater down to a 4 seater is a bit of a blow.
The seats do look better, i'm in 2 minds about the dash though, the new blower vents look good and the grab handle is somthing i've been wanting for ages.

theres a bit about it on here http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=7580
