OK, am going to swap the fuel tank on the diesel rangie. Is there any advice before i start. Try to remember i know nothing apart from how to undo things. Any advice would be nice and wether i need to bleed the fuel system afterwards as well.

Drain it. it's heavy. Soak the nuts in WD40 for about a year.
IIRC you should be able to lift the tak down and then disconnect stuff, but it may get hung up as it comes down.
You will have to bleed the air system I think.

OK, which one is the air system? and the nuts are cool, had them off with ease yesterday so think gtomo2 did the year long wd40 bit! lol

Does the tank have the sender unit and the fuel lines in the side of the tank. In which case you'll either need to disconnect all the gubbins or lower thge tank and try and take the gubbins out. The sender stuff is held in place using a dumb ass washer arrangement that's hard to describe. But look for some sticky up bits at right angles to the side of the tank where the sender wiring is.
Then you have to tap the sticky up bits to release that hard to describe washer as it has a series of ramp bits that force the seal against the tank.
Of dear this isn't going well at all.
It's damn fiddly either way and the tank is horribly heavy even empty. Don't forget that there's a return pipe up the front somewhere and that the tank will get hung up and then it will fall on top of you suddenly and you will most certainly get soaked in fuel!
Don't suppose you need a new tank complete with btand new sender unit? I have one in the garage that I can't bring myself to takem to the tip.

I have a spare tank already lol but i just wanted some idea of what i was going to be getting wrong, its an empty replacement tank so shouldnt be too hard to fit, not going to fuel it until its fitted either!

Sorry I should have siad you will need to bleed the air from the fuel system.

OK, so this should be an interesting experience as its not a standard engine lol, but i thought diesel engines were self bleeding? or is that petrol? lol, i dont know, i am just going to cry into a corner, if anyone has any idea how to bleed the fuel system on a 3.0TD mazda engine i would be grateful! lol

We just self bleeded the 2.5TD if that's any help, just held it at constant revs (Not screaming) for about 20 seconds. Purrs nicely after that.

Is it a mechanical pump or an electric one Dan?
Quickest way to bleed it is to loosen all four injector pipe nuts off on top of the injectors (at the end of the steel pipes where the injectors are screwed in to the cylinder head)
Then get someone to turn the engine over for you and the diesel will push the air out of the loose nuts.
All you need to do then is tighten them up when clean fuel comes out (rather than spitty farty stuff with air in....bit like when you bleed brakes)
This should work on any diesel (electric pump or mechanical) and will get rid of all the air at once, at the far end of the system.
You WILL get covered in diesel :twisted: :twisted:

Dan if you look on the passenger side of the engine near the back of it you will see the fuel pump with a metel knob on top. that is the manuel pump just kep pushing it till you feel presure and thats it job done :wink:
