Having a bad day with one at the mo... just wondered what other people use to combat them, tried dark rooms - quiet (well as quiet as i can get with 3 kids in the house)
so any ideas - ps they only started after my heart scare2 years ago!
-
I have some pills i take when one is coming on or i have already got one that get rid of mine after about 40 mins, if you got one stop looking at a computer screen as well helps

yep tried that..usually take some co-drydamol (?) think they are 650mg. didnt shift this one .. so may try the 'quack' cure of a large dose of alcohol later...

I used to get real hum dingers - not had one for a while *touch wood* Solpadeine (soluble) and a rest works for me.
-
mine are some prescription things (touch wood) i,ve not had one for a long time now but still carry them just in case
-
well finally moving it - mind you have taken 2 of the 650 mg tablets  ...
-
I get bad ones monthly & have prescription meds as mentioned above - you take them as it comes on & they shift it. I find normal pain killers don't touch them. :(
If you get them regularly go to the Doctors - they may help find the cause or give you something to get rid of them quicker. :)

went through all the trigger symptoms when i had my follow up after my suspected heart attack 2 years ago - all my doctor could suggest was to avoid bright lights, and stress.....hmmmm .
starting to get them more frequently now, so i think a visit to docs may be called for - also due my 12 month MOT from docs too.
-
i get them now and again, I used to have prescription stuff but now I just use over the counter "MIGRALEVE" its basically a v large dose of paracetamol.
I find alcohol has the opposite effect of curing it, it lowers the blood sugar which sometimes brings them on for me.

Do you need to wear glass's :?: ,
John.
-
get a labotomy :D :D
when i drove for a living i used to get them on occasion ,but i havent had one in years now ,as john said you may need glasses or at least get some driving glasses ,to reduce the eye strain :D

viks my misses started getting them about 3 months after we moved in to this house. she had never had one before then. they were real bad ones where she would loose the power of speech ect........  it was quite worrying.
we did the normal things of the docs ect, she actully ended up on beater blockers which we werent all that happy about  ....
it was about 4 months later i found the cause by accident.
viks wanted the fire place removed as i had just put central heating in. so i decided i might as well remove the chimney breast as it would be no use anymore. it was when i got the ladder out to go to the top of the house to look at the stack that i found there wasnt one  ..... so into the attic. urm.... what i found completly shocked me. the gas fire was venting into the chimney which was venting into the attic......someone had taken the stack down to just under the tiles and left it like that....
so viks was getting huge doses of carbon manoxide.......

in that case your very lucky to be alive.
but i wonder why you werent hit by it too?
since i got my glasses, i havent had a humdinger of a headache, but i still get mild ones occasionally
my glasses are only prescription in one eye, cos its different to the other one, which caused serious problems, but i could still see fine
for the sake of a £10 eye test, it made a huge change to me

When you go to the docs ask about the pencil injections that you can give yourself, these are brill and work very fast.I used to suffer very bad because of work enviroment. Classic symptons-loss of speech, pins and needles, vommiting and sleepiness. Hope it helps Andy.

If the headaches are stress related, then sort out the cause of the stress, either by fixing it, or not letting it get to you.
I often get headaches from spending a lot of time sat at a keyboard, and being under pressure to get things done. This might sound like bullshit, but the best way I've found of avoiding them is based on a Tai Chi exercise called Qigong. It's impossible to describe in writing, but it's about standing (or sitting if you're at work) in a relaxed posture. It really does make a difference, especially if you can do it for 15 mins or so at the first sign of a headache.

Used to get migraines many years ago. The only thing that worked for me was going to sleep. Not easy when your head feels like that though!
-
I used suffer quite badly with migraines at times and previously my GP has prescribed propranolol which is a beta blocker which helped me until I fell pregnant and had to stop taking them.......
I was always told to avoid chocolate and cheese (mother)
Now all I ever suffer with is tension headaches, like a tight band round your head from your neck to forehead brought on by stress.
But I would suggest a trip to your GP that way if you need a preventative medication they can supply one.
-
thanks for all the tips.
re glasses - yes i have a very mild prescription - and no they didnt help
re stress - well hgv driver 4 kids (1 a teenager) erm so lots
when i get a good 'un sleep is all i want to do, like a fire works explosion around my eyes even to the ticking of a clock.
always suffered with headaches -and have had high blood pressure for 30 out of 40 years, but as i said only started migraines after my heart scare!
-
I read somewhere that if you drink a can of 7up when you first feel one comeing on. Told the wife as she suffers from migraines and she tried it and it really works so she keeps a stock of them now.
She still has tablets for if the 7up doesnt work though.
-
if i catch it coming on migraleve is wicked but if i wait till its come on nowt works.
-
my bother in law used to suffer from migraines.
He was given the tip of a doctor that if you apply preasure to the pice of skin inbetween the index finger and thumb (needs to be fairly firm) then this can relieve the initial syptoms as its a preassure point thats used in chinese medecin.
apparently you need to squeeze just in front of where you can feel the thumb bones connecting to the rest of the hands bones (you should be able to feel the muscles there)
dont know why it works but I know it works on normal headaches as I get some blinders and if I dont have any thing like paracetamol to hand I'll use this and hasnt failed once yet
